About the Role
In this position, you will manage general liability litigation matters, including personal injury, motor vehicle, property damage, construction, labor law, and product liability.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Managing a diverse civil defense caseload from initial inception through to final resolution.
- Drafting pleadings, answering written discovery, and conducting comprehensive legal research to develop sound case strategies.
- Taking and defending depositions of parties, fact witnesses, and expert witnesses.
- Appearing in court for arguments, and participating directly in arbitrations and trials.
- Providing regular, timely updates to clients regarding case status, strategy, and potential outcomes.
- Collaborating closely with partners, associates, and legal staff while adhering to billing and budget requirements.
- Traveling occasionally for court appearances and client meetings as required.
What We're Looking For
Must Have:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active New York State bar license in good standing.
- 3 to 7 years of experience in civil litigation, with a strong preference for defense work.
- Proven track record of success in courtroom appearances, depositions, and settlement negotiations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, backed by strong analytical abilities.
Nice to Have:
- Prior judicial clerkship experience.
