About the Role
As a Civil Defense Litigation Associate, you will serve as a core member of our expanding Philadelphia practice group. You will navigate complex legal and factual issues, developing sound defense strategies for a diverse roster of clients across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and potentially Delaware. This role is designed for an experienced practitioner who thrives in a fast-paced environment, possesses sharp critical reasoning, and is ready to integrate into a robust practice that values professional development, mentorship of junior attorneys, and seamless team collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Comprehensive Claims Management: Manage a diverse and sophisticated caseload from inception through resolution, overseeing case strategy and conducting well-reasoned legal research and analysis.
- Litigation & Trial Advocacy: Draft high-level pleadings, answer written discovery, lead and defend depositions of parties, fact witnesses, and experts, and actively participate in arbitrations, mediations, and trials.
- Proactive Communication: Partner closely with clients, the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel, providing regular and timely updates on case status, strategy, and potential outcomes.
- Mobile Advocacy: Travel as needed for court appearances, client meetings, and depositions across the tri-state area.
- Collaborative Execution: Deliver efficient, high-quality legal services as a key member of a multidisciplinary team of over 150 legal professionals, adhering to billing and budget requirements while building strong client relationships.
Requirements
- Experience: 3+ years of dedicated experience, with a primary focus on casualty litigation, including premises liability, general liability, product liability, personal injury, motor vehicle, property damage, construction and labor law, and insurance defense.
- Academic Background: J.D. from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials and exceptional analytical skills.
- Bar Admission: Must be an active member in good standing of both the Pennsylvania and New Jersey State Bars. Admission to the Delaware State Bar is a strong plus.
- Skills: Excellent communication, research, writing, and organizational capabilities, paired with a proven track record of success in courtroom appearances and settlement negotiations.
