An Inpatient Medical Coder is responsible for reviewing and analyzing inpatient medical records to assign accurate diagnostic and procedure codes based on clinical documentation, regulatory guidelines, and coding classification systems. This role supports revenue cycle accuracy, compliance, and hospital reimbursement processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately code inpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
  • Review medical documentation to identify the correct diagnostic and procedural codes
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies
  • Maintain detailed records and adhere to coding guidelines and regulations
  • Provide regular reports on coding productivity and quality metrics
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay up-to-date with coding changes and best practices
Required Qualifications
  • 1 year of inpatient medical coding experience
  • Graduate of Allied Health or Healthcare-related course preferred
  • Coding certifications such as:
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) – with inpatient exposure
