Role Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Principal Test Lead to head and continuously enhance the organization’s software testing capability while also taking an active leadership role in major strategic initiatives. This position combines enterprise-level quality leadership with hands-on project delivery. The successful candidate will shape testing standards and governance across the business while directly leading complex project testing activities. The role requires strong technical testing expertise, proven leadership experience, and deep knowledge of both Agile and traditional software delivery environments.
Key Responsibilities
Testing Strategy & Functional Leadership
- Define, implement, and continuously improve the organization’s overall testing strategy, frameworks, and standards.
- Establish governance processes to ensure consistent quality practices across programs and projects.
- Promote best practices in quality assurance, including automation and structured test lifecycle management.
- Lead and mentor test professionals across teams, strengthening overall QA capability and performance.
- Drive improvements in test planning, execution, reporting, metrics, and quality controls.
- Partner with Technology, Product, and Business stakeholders to align testing efforts with delivery priorities and timelines.
Project-Level Test Leadership (Hands-On)
- Lead testing for complex or business-critical initiatives, developing comprehensive test approaches and plans.
- Oversee execution across functional, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing phases.
- Coordinate test environments, test data, and defect management in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Develop and maintain both manual and automated test assets where required.
- Monitor and communicate testing progress, quality indicators, and risks to stakeholders.
- Ensure traceability across requirements, test cases, and defect resolution.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Identify and evaluate modern testing tools, automation solutions, and emerging technologies (e.g., performance tools, AI-driven testing optimization).
- Track and report on key quality metrics, using data insights to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Support DevOps and CI/CD practices by embedding automated testing within delivery pipelines.
Required Skills & Experience
Essential
- Minimum 8 years of experience in software testing, including at least 3 years in a senior or leadership capacity.
- Demonstrated experience leading or managing a testing function.
- Proven ability to oversee QA efforts across multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong understanding of test lifecycle management, automation practices, and non-functional testing (e.g., performance, security).
- Hands-on experience with modern QA and automation tools such as XRay, Selenium, Playwright, Azure DevOps, Jira, TestRail, and Jenkins.
- Working knowledge of Agile, Scrum, and DevOps methodologies.
- Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills.
Desirable
- Experience building or transforming a testing capability within an organization.
- Relevant professional certification (e.g., ISTQB Advanced Test Manager or equivalent).
- Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and API testing tools (e.g., Postman, RestAssured).
- Experience with test data management and environment provisioning practices.
