Job Description: PS Core Network Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking a PS (Packet Switched) Core Network Engineer to operate, maintain, and optimize PS core networks across 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G environments. The role covers daily operations, advanced troubleshooting, solution implementation, and network evolution activities, with responsibilities aligned to the engineers experience level.

Experience Levels

  • Engineer: 3 Years

  • Senior Engineer: 5–8 Years

  • Expert / Lead Engineer: More than 8 Years

Responsibilities & Technical Requirements by Experience Level

3 Years (PS Core Engineer)

PS Core Fundamentals

  • Good command of the basic knowledge of PS Core Network Elements (NEs)

  • Basic understanding of common PS network protocols:

    • TCP, UDP, NTP, DNS, ICMP

  • Basic knowledge of IPv4 / IPv6 addressing, subnetting, and IP allocation

Network Operations & Tools

  • Proficient in basic troubleshooting tools:

    • Ping, Tracert

  • Ability to collect information using NMS, NIC, and LMT

  • Perform routine health checks and maintain operational scripts

  • Monitor network performance, system logs, and capacity

Mobility & Session Management

  • Understanding of logical interfaces in 2G / 3G / 4G networks

  • Basic knowledge of mobility and session management procedures:

    • Attach, TAU, Handover

    • PDP establishment and session establishment

Cloud & Troubleshooting

  • General knowledge of cloud concepts for physical and logical network structures

  • Basic alarm handling and troubleshooting

  • Ability to enable traces and perform basic fault isolation

5–8 Years (Senior PS Core Engineer)

Advanced Troubleshooting & Maintenance

  • Strong capability in comprehensive troubleshooting and routine PS core maintenance

  • Solid understanding of IPv4 networking and subnetting

  • Expertise in trace capture and analysis tools:

    • PCAP, Traceview

  • Proficient with FMA for traffic statistics, alarms, operation logs, and CHR analysis

Mobility, Interfaces & Services

  • Strong command of mobility and session management:

    • Attach, TAU, Handover, PDP setup, session setup

    • Registration, inter-RAT interworking

    • User authentication, NE selection, QoS principles

  • Knowledge of interface signaling tracing and analysis:

    • Ga, Gn, Iu, Gr, Gb, S1-MME, S1-U, S5, S8, SGi, Gx, Gy

PS Core Implementation

  • Hands-on experience with 2G / 3G / 4G PS service implementations:

    • SGSN/MME pooling

    • Address pool allocation

    • CSFB

  • Experience with simple PCC services and charging schemes

O&M & KPIs

  • Strong routine O&M capabilities:

    • Message tracing, alarm analysis, performance monitoring

  • Experience with patching, upgrades, part replacement, and capacity expansion

  • Knowledge of NSA and SA architectures and 5G solutions

  • Ability to analyze 3G / 4G / 5G KPIs and counters and troubleshoot KPI degradation

  • Experience with licenses, patches, certificates, and KPI systems

More Than 8 Years (Expert / Lead PS Core Engineer)

Architecture, Planning & Optimization

  • Strong expertise in solution design, network planning, service solution planning, and optimization

  • Deep understanding of QoS principles and IPSec architecture

Advanced Troubleshooting & Analysis

  • Expert-level use of tools:

    • Wireshark, TranExpert, FMA

  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex service quality issues based on signaling

  • Advanced signaling tracing and analysis across all PS interfaces

Charging, DPI & VoLTE

  • Expert knowledge of:

    • Online and offline charging commissioning

    • DPI and content-based charging configuration

    • PCC data planning and configuration

  • Strong understanding of end-to-end VoLTE processes, with PS-side expertise

Scalability & Cloud Architecture

  • Expertise in board and VM scaling methods

  • Strong command of CUPS architecture and principles

  • Experience with complex networking solutions:

    • 2G/3G/4G horizontal service redundancy

    • MME chain backup, VoLTE, NB-IoT

    • IPSec / GRE / L2TP

Evolution & Complex Operations

  • Advanced signaling and KPI analysis for horizontal services

  • Expertise in IP packet analysis, complex upgrades, capacity expansion, and network reconstruction

  • Strong understanding of PS network concepts, procedures, and configurations

  • Ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into end-to-end technical solutions
