Position Overview
The Research and Development Engineer drives innovation, enhances product development, and ensures high-quality technical documentation. This role bridges technical expertise with cross-functional collaboration to align with organizational goals. Through a commitment to continuous improvement, the R&D Engineer contributes to process optimization, market-driven innovation, and robust product lifecycle management.
Key Responsibilities:
Innovation and Market Research
- Conduct thorough research on industry trends, competitor products, and advancements in materials, processes, and technologies.
- Generate innovative ideas to address customer needs and improve existing products.
Catalog and Documentation Management
- Child Parts Catalogue:
- Create, update, and maintain child parts catalogs with the latest revisions and accurate technical information to support Planning, Production, Quality, and Purchasing departments.
Product Catalogue:
- Manage two types of product catalogs:
- Basic Catalog for website and external usage.
- Detailed Catalog for internal use in FQC, Production, and client-specific applications.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency across all catalog versions.
- Maintain and update Master Logs for products and components, such as Child Parts Logs, Complete Logs, and R&D Task Logs.
Product Development and Prototyping
- Design, develop, and test new and existing products using CAD tools and modeling software.
- Lead the prototyping process and oversee prototype testing under various conditions.
- Conduct failure mode and root cause analysis to enhance product reliability.
Compliance and Standards
- Ensure all designs and products meet relevant regulatory and safety standards.
- Obtain necessary certifications and patents for innovative designs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with Marketing, Sales, and Production teams to align product designs with market needs and manufacturing capabilities.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure alignment with quality and technical requirements.
Accuracy and Timeliness
- Guarantee the accuracy of all technical documents, BOMs, and drawings, adhering to company standards.
- Deliver assignments on time, updating revision numbers and dates for modified documents.
- Maintain validated, organized documentation in designated server locations.
Supplier and Client Matching
- Verify suppliers drawings and samples for compliance with technical specifications.
- Validate client-provided drawings and samples, ensuring alignment with required specifications.
First Piece Production
- Oversee and validate the production of first-time items, ensuring compliance with the latest drawings, item cards, and specifications.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements to optimize product development and R&D efficiency.
- Analyze feedback from product returns and testing to inform design enhancements.
- Foster a culture of innovation, learning, and collaboration to drive organizational growth.
Leadership and Project Management
- Develop and manage budgets and schedules for R&D projects.
- Lead design reviews and present findings to senior management.
- Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Innovation: Number of new products and process improvement initiatives.
- Accuracy: Error-free completion of catalogs, BOMs, and technical drawings.
- Timeliness: Adherence to project deadlines and task schedules.
- Product Reliability: Reduction in failure rates during product testing or post-market returns.
- Compliance: Percentage of designs meeting regulatory and safety standards.
