Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Designer / Engineer with strong AutoCAD and/or Revit expertise to lead the design and documentation of structured cabling and security systems. This role is responsible for producing construction-ready drawings, coordinating with multiple disciplines, and maintaining high technical standards across projects.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role. The right candidate can independently develop permit-ready documents, guide junior designers, and serve as a subject matter expert for telecom and security infrastructure systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design and layout of structured cabling systems (copper and fiber)
- Design telecommunications rooms, backbone pathways, and device layouts
- Develop physical security system designs including access control, CCTV, and intrusion detection
- Produce full construction drawing sets in AutoCAD and/or Revit including plans, risers, diagrams, schedules, and details
- Coordinate with architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical teams
- Ensure compliance with BICSI, TIA, ANSI, NFPA, and other applicable standards
- Review and redline drawings for quality, constructability, and coordination
- Support project managers with scope development, technical narratives, and design clarification
- Participate in client meetings and technical review sessions
- Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance
- Support RFIs, submittal reviews, and construction administration efforts
Required Qualifications
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit
for low voltage system design
- Strong working knowledge of structured cabling and security system design
principles
- Proven ability to independently produce construction-ready and permit-ready
drawings
- Experience coordinating across multiple disciplines on complex commercial
projects
- Strong attention to detail and document control
- Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal oversight
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to mentor and lead technically
Strongly Preferred
- RCDD certification
- PSP certification
- Experience designing for healthcare, higher education, mission critical, or large commercial environments
- BIM coordination experience
- Background in consulting or A/E environments
- Client-facing technical leadership experience
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Technology, or related field preferred (or equivalent industry experience)
- Typically 5–7+ years of progressive experience in low voltage or technology system design
CAD / Revit Library & BIM Governance Responsibilities
- This role also serves as the technical authority over low voltage CAD and BIM content standards.
- Develop and maintain standardized CAD block and Revit family libraries for telecom and security systems
- Create and update content for racks, cabinets, pathways, devices, and system components
- Ensure drafting standards, naming conventions, parameters, and visibility settings remain consistent
- Review and approve new or revised content before release to production
- Maintain version control and prevent non-standard content from entering active projects
- Coordinate library standards with BIM workflows and project requirements
- Audit project files for compliance with drafting standards
- Troubleshoot library or model performance issues
- Train internal staff on proper use of content and drafting standards
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on BIM efficiency and automation
