About the Role:
We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist to support our construction teams by promoting a culture of safety, delivering comprehensive safety training, and ensuring compliance with all relevant EH&S regulations. This position plays a key role in identifying and mitigating risks to prevent injuries and property damage on job sites.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver safety training and promote adherence to EH&S policies and procedures across project teams and field staff.
- Foster a safe working environment aligned with company standards and all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations.
- Develop strong working relationships with internal project teams and subcontractor safety representatives.
- Support the creation and implementation of project-specific safety programs.
- Conduct job site inspections, enforce safety procedures, and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
- Review subcontractor safety programs and ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Lead pre-construction meetings with subcontractors to review site-specific safety expectations and risk mitigation strategies.
- Collect and evaluate Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) from subcontractors.
- Coordinate new hire orientation and ensure proper safety training is administered and documented.
- Prepare safety reports, track metrics, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Facilitate regular safety meetings and maintain documentation including toolbox talks.
- Perform safety audits, issue corrective action plans, and monitor follow-up activities.
- Recommend additional training and development based on site-specific needs.
- Contribute to achieving and exceeding project safety performance goals and minimizing incident rates.
- Administer drug testing programs as required (pre-employment, post-incident, random, etc.).
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in construction safety or a similar role.
- CHST certification required or must be obtained within two years of hire.
- Completion of OSHA 30-hour training.
- Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, and AED.
- Strong understanding of EH&S principles, construction safety practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of general construction operations and subcontractor management.
- Skilled in hazard identification and development of effective mitigation strategies.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and follow through with tasks.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
