Position Overview
The Assistant Construction Superintendent is the Company's direct field representative on active construction projects. This role carries real responsibility — you are on the ground ensuring safety compliance, supervising craft, coordinating trade partners, driving the schedule, and maintaining quality control from first day of work through final turnover. You will work closely with the project team and report to the Construction Superintendent, serving as a key leader in day-to-day field operations on a major construction project in Montgomery, AL.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Company's field representative and primary point of accountability for safety, quality control, schedule, and craft supervision in your assigned area
- Enforce all safety policies on the jobsite and actively participate in safety planning, audits, toolbox talks, and all safety-related functions
- Develop Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) and Safety Task Analyses (STAs) with foremen for all self-performed work and review trade partner AHAs for compliance
- Supervise and coordinate the Company's craft workforce, providing direction, accountability, and on-the-job training to field personnel
- Coordinate and schedule trade partners in your area, actively engaging in weekly scheduling meetings alongside trade partner foremen
- Maintain and uphold a well-organized four-week look-ahead schedule, keeping work fronts aligned and production on track
- Create material handling and site utilization plans for specific work areas and coordinate with the Project Coordinator on material needs, submittals, and RFIs
- Ensure all materials received on site are properly inspected for quantity and quality, and that receiving tickets are correctly signed, coded, and submitted to the jobsite administrator
- Maintain accurate timekeeping, daily project logs, and cost records throughout all phases of construction
- Own quality control for both Company self-performed work and subcontractor scope, identifying deficiencies and driving corrective action
- Work collaboratively with the project team including the Construction Manager, Project Coordinator, and trade partners to keep the project on schedule and within budget
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in construction management, field supervision, or a related construction role
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered
- Demonstrated experience supervising craft labor and coordinating trade partners on active construction projects
- Strong working knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, building systems, and facilities operations
- Experience developing and maintaining four-week look-ahead schedules and participating in project scheduling activities
- Familiarity with AHA/STA development and jobsite safety compliance requirements
- Proficiency in MS Office and field reporting applications
- Effective written and verbal communication skills across field and project team settings
- Ability to work in a mobile, fast-paced field environment as part of a high-performance project team
- Valid driver's license required
- Professional accreditations (OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid, or equivalent) desirable
