About the job IT Network Specialist
The IT Network Specialist is responsible for the application engineering, programming, troubleshooting, startup, commissioning, and long-term support of complex Fire, Security, and Building Automation Systems. This position serves as the primary technical point of contact for customers on assigned projects and plays a critical role in delivering reliable, scalable, and fully integrated systems.
Work is performed with minimal supervision and in accordance with established quality, safety, and performance standards. Assignments typically involve larger, more complex projects that require advanced technical judgment, strong customer communication, and the ability to balance scope, schedule, and budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead application engineering, programming, startup, checkout, and troubleshooting for complex installed systems
- Serve as the technical escalation point and trusted advisor for customers on assigned projects
- Support and integrate Fire Alarm, Electronic Security Systems (ESS), and Building Automation Systems
- Configure, support, and maintain LAN, WAN, and internet-based network environments related to installed systems
- Install, maintain, and support IT system hardware and software associated with project delivery
- Monitor system availability and performance, performing maintenance as needed to ensure uptime
- Deliver custom system integrations, system audits, upgrade planning, database management, and technical consultations
- Support SQL-based databases, scripting tasks, and system data manipulation tied to ESS platforms
- Ensure projects are executed within budgeted cost and scheduled timelines
- Maintain accurate documentation, configuration records, and commissioning deliverables
- Perform additional duties as required to support project and customer success
Technical Skills & Capabilities
- Advanced programming and troubleshooting skills across Access Control Systems (ACS), Video Management Systems (VMS), and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)
- Strong understanding of engineering principles related to building automation, fire alarm, and electronic security systems
- Advanced mechanical and electrical aptitude; comfortable working with hand and power tools in active jobsite environments
- Strong networking and IT skills, particularly in security and building automation environments
- Experience supporting SQL queries, scripting, PowerShell, and automation tasks
- Exposure to software development, application creation, or advanced scripting is a strong plus
- Highly proficient with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, AutoCAD, and related viewing or configuration tools

Education & Experience
- College degree, trade school, or equivalent hands-on experience
- 5–7+ years of experience in computer and network systems installation and maintenance
- Prior experience supporting low-voltage systems, security systems, fire alarm, or building automation projects
