The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Lead to lead the delivery of surface and underground mechanical capital projects at a Tier 1 Mining Operator in Queensland.

With underground expansion works underway, this role will manage the end-to-end delivery of critical mechanical infrastructure including ventilation systems, fresh air raise infrastructure, pump stations, underground fixed plant installations, and associated surface mechanical upgrades.

This position is responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality and technical standards.

Contract & Roster
  • Contractor Position

  • Initial 12-month+ contract (Likely a 2 year capital program)

  • 8 days on / 6 days off FIFO roster

  • Direct flights to site from: Cairns, Townsville or Brisbane

  • Meals and accommodation provided

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Capital Projects Lead, you will:

  • Manage full project lifecycle from planning through to construction execution, commissioning and handover
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams including supervisors, engineers, and contractors
  • Ensure compliance with site safety, statutory, and environmental requirements

  • Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, forecasts, and cost controls

  • Coordinate procurement, contractor engagement, and site execution activities

  • Oversee mechanical installation works including ventilation fans, pump systems, structural/mechanical infrastructure and fixed plant

  • Monitor project risks and implement mitigation strategies

  • Manage change control processes and stakeholder communication

  • Drive quality assurance and commissioning readiness

  • Provide regular reporting to senior stakeholders on project performance

About You

You are a delivery-focused Mechanical Project Manager with strong underground mining capital experience.

You will demonstrate:

  • 8+ years experience in mining or heavy industrial project environments

  • Proven experience delivering mechanical capital projects within underground operations

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or trade background with strong project management experience

  • Experience managing budgets, contracts, and project controls

  • Strong knowledge of ventilation systems, pumping infrastructure, and underground mechanical installations

  • Experience working within Tier 1 mining operational environments

  • Strong contractor management capability

  • Proficiency with SAP, MS Project, and Microsoft Office

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and leadership skills

  • Project Management qualifications (PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent) will be highly regarded.
