Location: Rolleston Open Cut, Central Queensland (Rolleston)
Employment type: Full-time, Permanent (Graduate Program / 2-year structured development)
Roster: 5/2 FIFO (Brisbane embarkment) Fly in Monday morning, fly out Friday mid-morning (into Brisbane by ~1:30pm). All day shifts, paid full day on travel days.
Team: Rolleston Coal Projects Department

About Rolleston Open Cut

Rolleston Open Cut is a large thermal coal operation in the southern Bowen Basin supplying domestic and export markets. The site operates at significant annual production and has a long life of mine with a sizeable workforce and contractor base.

Position summary

Reporting to the Area Manager, you will assist in the delivery of capital and minor works projects through the complete project lifecycle from front-end loading through to execution and close-out. You will gain hands-on experience in scoping, design coordination, budgeting, scheduling, contracting, and site execution, working across multiple work packages simultaneously. Support and mentoring will be provided, but the role requires a motivated, fast learner who thrives in a dynamic project environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Assist with project delivery from concept to close-out, ensuring compliance with Glencore safety and quality standards.

  • Develop scopes of work, risk assessments, project budgets, schedules, and preliminary designs in conjunction with external design firms.

  • Prepare tender documentation, evaluate bids, and assist in vendor onboarding and contract administration.

  • Coordinate with contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure timely project execution.

  • Support project supervisors with daily activities during execution, including progress monitoring and troubleshooting.

  • Maintain accurate project records, update progress reports, and capture lessons learned.

  • Participate in safety observations, toolbox talks, and risk review meetings.

Selection criteria essential

  • Bachelors degree in Civil, Mechanical, Mining or Project Engineering (or equivalent) completed within the last 2 years or graduating soon.

  • Strong technical literacy (drawings, basic engineering calculations, MS Excel / MS Project).

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams.

  • Ability to work FIFO on a 5/2 roster from Brisbane.

  • Commitment to a safety-first mindset and adherence to Glencores values.

Desirable

  • Prior work experience (internship, vacation work) in mining or heavy industry.

  • Exposure to project management software, estimating tools, or contract administration.

  • Valid C class drivers licence and unrestricted Australian working rights.
