About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Study Manager / Project Manager to lead the planning and delivery of major mining and infrastructure projects for a leading global resources company.

This role is responsible for managing projects from concept through to detailed design, including procurement of long-lead items and coordination of multidisciplinary teams. You will play a key role in integrating engineering, procurement, and project controls, while driving early contractor involvement to ensure safe, efficient, and successful project outcomes.

Project Development Context

This role will support a major underground mining expansion involving complex, deep-level operations and associated surface infrastructure. The development presents unique technical and logistical challenges, particularly with drilling and infrastructure extending to depths of approximately 2.5km.

Key project scopes include:

  • Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF) and associated dam infrastructure

  • Ore handling and storage systems (including ore bins)

  • Paste backfill plant and distribution systems

  • Ammonia plant and associated processing infrastructure

  • Underground cooling and ventilation systems to support deep mining operations

This is a technically challenging program requiring strong integration across studies, engineering design, procurement, and construction readiness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning and delivery of engineering studies and projects from concept to detailed design
  • Coordinate all engineering, procurement, and project control activities across the project lifecycle
  • Maintain project schedules, documentation, and reporting across design and procurement phases
  • Plan and forecast budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure delivery to scope, schedule, and cost targets
  • Drive early contractor involvement (ECI), operational readiness, and commissioning planning
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and quality assurance processes
  • Oversee engineering design development and coordinate external engineering consultants
  • Administer project engineering activities including critical path analysis and schedule optimisation
  • Conduct risk assessments across engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning
  • Integrate subcontractor, supplier, and service provider schedules into the overall project program
  • Monitor project progress and performance, recommending and implementing corrective actions
  • Manage and review consultant and contractor deliverables
  • Collaborate with procurement teams on sourcing, expediting, and contract delivery
  • Ensure adherence to Project Execution and Management System (PEMS) governance
  • Attend site as required to support project delivery
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining, Mechanical, Process Engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum 15 years' experience in project engineering or project management

  • Minimum 10 years' experience within the mining or resources sector
  • Proven experience managing full project lifecycle (concept through execution)
  • Strong background in project controls, including scheduling, WBS development, and cost management
  • Experience in package/area management (e.g. EI&C, SMP, Civil & Earthworks)
  • Demonstrated experience working across multidisciplinary engineering and construction teams
  • Strong systems capability across project management and scheduling platforms
