Time Frame: 3 Months till (March 2026)

Minimum Qualification and Experience:

  • The Extenders must have at least graduated from the 12th grade, with preference given to those with a 14th grade and bachelors degree
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience working with UNICEF Education Section.
  • Received training on the Education Extenders (EE) Training Workshop organized by the UNICEF and possess theoretical and practical knowledge to enhance integrated monitoring of education programs including UNICEF internal monitoring, Third-party monitoring (TPM) and joint monitoring with the Education Cluster.
  • Received training of UNICEF Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse is an advantage.
  • Deep understanding of the cultural and social context in Afghanistan, with sensitivity to local customs, traditions, and challenges faced by caregivers.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish trust and rapport with children, Teachers, and IPs staff from varying backgrounds.
  • Ability to collect and report data.
  • Fluency in local languages. Proficiency in English is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of working with children and understanding of gender in Afghanistan is an advantage.
  • Previous work experience with UNICEF Afghanistan CBE program is an asset

Specific Tasks/Activities

  1. Scope of Work and Key Deliverables

The Education Extender will provide planning, coordination, and technical support to UNICEFs education program by facilitating micro-planning, reporting, feedback loop management, and capacity development of field-based staff.

Each of the following deliverables will be weighted equally (25%) for performance assessment and payment purposes:

2. Support Monthly Micro-Planning Across 5 Field Offices (25%)

  • Coordinate with zonal education teams to gather monthly activity forecasts and resource needs.
  • Facilitate the consolidation of field office inputs into a harmonized micro-plan aligned with the national education work plan.
  • Ensure field-level needs are entered accurately into the Activity Info system.
  • Provide monthly micro-planning summary and highlight any critical gaps.

Deliverable:

  • Consolidated monthly micro-planning report and Activity Info data entry completion verification.

3. Support Monthly Reporting Across 5 Field Offices (25%)

  • Coordinate with zonal offices to compile programmatic updates, achievements, and challenges.
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of reporting into the Education Section's reporting frameworks.
  • Support validation of data and narrative quality before submission.

Deliverable:

  • Monthly consolidated report from all 5 field offices, with validated entries and submission log.

4. Collate Reports, Conduct Analysis, and Close Feedback Loops (25%)

  • Track and follow up on key findings and red flags raised in field reports and third-party monitoring.
  • Compile Environmental and Social Safeguarding (ESS) inputs and ensure responses are documented.
  • Maintain a live tracker of issues raised and actions taken, and support review meetings to close feedback loops.

Deliverable:

  • Monthly issue tracker with status of follow-up actions, summary analysis, and ESS input log.

5. Support Capacity Building of Education Extenders in Field Offices (25%)

  • Identify capacity gaps and learning needs among field-based extenders through regular consultations.
  • Develop and facilitate monthly orientation or refresher sessions (virtual or in-person).
  • Provide on-the-job mentoring and troubleshooting support related to micro-planning, reporting, and Activity Info usage.

Deliverable:

  • Monthly summary of capacity building activities conducted, attendance lists, and feedback summaries.
