Intermediate Accountant
About the job Intermediate Accountant
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare financial statements for Companies, Trusts, Partnerships, and Sole Traders.
- Prepare income tax returns and Business Activity Statements (BAS).
- Perform bookkeeping tasks, including bank reconciliations, invoicing, payroll processing, and journal entries in Xero.
- Maintain accurate financial records within cloud-based accounting platforms.
- Support managers with tax planning and advisory matters.
- Assist with tax planning, GST, CGT, FBT, Division 7A, payroll tax, and land tax requirements.
- Conduct research on accounting and taxation matters as required.
- Communicate with clients to obtain information and provide updates on deliverables.
- Manage workflows effectively to ensure deadlines and budgets are achieved.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and enhance client service delivery.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in business services within an Australian accounting firm.
- Strong understanding of Australian accounting principles and taxation requirements.
- Proficiency in Xero.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Confident in communicating with clients and internal stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Xero Practice Manager (XPM), QuickBooks, and FYI Docs.
- Exposure to tax planning and advisory services.
- Experience handling a diverse portfolio of Australian clients.
- Working toward or planning to pursue CPA or CA qualifications.
- Proactive, organised, and solutions-focused mindset.
