Position: Orbital Welder - High Purity Pipework

Job Summary

The Orbital Welder will be responsible for precision welding of high purity stainless steel pipework to meet the stringent standards of Pharmaceutical and Data Centre projects. This role requires proven orbital welding expertise, the ability to generate and adjust programs, and full compliance with high purity industry practices. The Orbital Welder will also prepare, fit, and test pipework prior to welding and ensure that all work meets client specifications, industry codes, and quality assurance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out orbital welding of high purity stainless steel pipework to Pharmaceutical grade standards.
  • Generate and modify welding programs for orbital machines to suit project requirements.
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate GF SAWs Orbitalium 180SW plants, AMI orbital welding systems, and other orbital equipment.
  • Conduct pipe preparation, cutting, fit-up, and alignment prior to welding.
  • Read and interpret ISO drawings, P&IDs, and isometric sketches to confirm welding sequences and installation.
  • Perform system walkdowns to verify pipe runs and identify welding requirements.
  • Support weld testing and validation in accordance with QA/QC standards.
  • Maintain accurate welding records, logs, and machine settings.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and cleanroom protocols at all times.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, pipefitters, and QA teams to achieve project delivery milestones.

Required Certifications & Training

  • FÁS Trade Certificate (Welding, Pipefitting, or equivalent recognised qualification)
  • Abrasive Wheels Certification
  • ECITB (Engineering Construction Industry Training Board) Certification
  • NVQ Level 3 (Welding, Pipefitting, or Engineering Construction)
  • Manual Handling Certification
  • Working at Heights Certification
  • IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) License
  • Safe Pass Certification (or equivalent site safety card)

Experience

  • Minimum 4 years orbital welding experience, specifically in high purity (hygienic) pipework.
  • Hands-on experience with GF SAWs Orbitalium 180SW, AMI, and similar orbital welding systems.
  • Background in pipe preparation, testing, and fit-up.
  • Proven ability to deliver welds in Pharmaceutical and/or Data Centre environments.

Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced orbital welding knowledge with a focus on high purity pipework standards.
  • Capable of generating blank programs and adjusting parameters to achieve weld integrity.
  • Proficient in pipe cutting, prepping, and fit-up for orbital welding.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent quality assurance and compliance awareness.
  • Ability to work from detailed ISOs, P&IDs, and BIM models.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent safety awareness and ability to operate in controlled environments.
