Type: local contract
Hours: 40 hours weekly, Monday – Friday 9am to 530pm, rotating Saturday's 7am-1pm
Location: Cherry Hill, NJ
Dates: July 6 to October 3 2026
The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood specimen collection and laboratory support functions to facilitate accurate diagnostic testing. This role provides phlebotomy services for patients across the lifespan—from infants through older adults—while ensuring specimen integrity, patient safety, and exceptional service standards.
The Phlebotomist also performs specimen processing, manages laboratory documentation and patient information systems, and supports daily laboratory operations in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver professional, compassionate, and patient-centered care to individuals across all age groups.
- Apply age-specific and developmental communication techniques when interacting with patients, families, and visitors.
- Recognize and adapt communication styles to meet cultural, emotional, and developmental needs.
- Introduce self and establish rapport while addressing patient questions and concerns appropriately.
- Identify communication barriers and implement effective interventions.
- Perform venipuncture and capillary (micro-collection) procedures according to established laboratory protocols.
- Accurately identify patients using approved identification procedures and maintain specimen collection accuracy.
- Collect biological specimens following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and age-specific collection techniques.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions during and after specimen collection.
- Complete timed and scheduled collections within required timeframes.
- Perform specialized collections as required, including:
- Breath alcohol testing
- Hair specimen collection
- Electrocardiograms (EKGs)
- Process and prepare clinical specimens for diagnostic laboratory testing.
- Ensure proper specimen labeling with a high level of accuracy.
- Maintain specimen integrity throughout handling and transport.
- Distribute specimens to appropriate laboratory departments in a timely manner.
- Operate laboratory equipment and pneumatic tube systems safely and correctly.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures during specimen handling.
- Maintain accurate logs, worksheets, and documentation according to SOPs.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of a structured Phlebotomy Training Program required
- Previous experience in phlebotomy, specimen processing, or clinical laboratory operations preferred.
- Proficiency in venipuncture and capillary collection techniques.
- Knowledge of specimen handling, processing, and laboratory safety procedures.
- Familiarity with EMR/LIS systems.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
