About the Role
Were seeking an experienced Database Engineer (DE3) to provide technical leadership in the design, development, and implementation of complex database systems supporting large-scale, mission-critical environments. In this role, you'll help architect robust, secure data storage and retrieval frameworks that align with enterprise system architecture and performance goals.
This position requires expertise in relational and object-oriented databases, data modeling, and cloud-based storage technologies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of data flow, system integration, and the ability to optimize performance while maintaining strict security and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and implementation of database structures that support complex system architectures.

Develop and maintain database parser and loading software for efficient data ingestion and transformation.

Conduct data modeling and analysis to support performance optimization, scalability, and information retrieval.

Translate business and technical requirements into logical and physical database designs.

Create and refine ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros to support analysis, reporting, and integration tasks.

Recommend and implement system enhancements and database optimization strategies.

Define long-term database architecture requirements and support lifecycle activities from concept to deployment.

Collaborate with software engineers and system architects to ensure database designs meet operational and performance standards.

Apply cloud-based database methodologies for storage, retrieval, and distributed computing environments.

Direct and mentor team members in implementing best practices for data integrity, performance, and security.
Required Qualifications

10+ years of experience as a Database Engineer (DBE) in programs or contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

Bachelors degree in a technical discipline (Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field).

Substitution: Five (5) years of additional DBE experience may replace a degree.

Proven experience developing and managing relational and object-oriented databases.

Proficiency in database architecture, query optimization, and data modeling.

Hands-on experience with cloud database integration and Open Database Connectivity (ODBC).

Strong understanding of data security, retention, and domain control principles.

Ability to balance performance, scalability, and security in multi-user, distributed environments.
Additional Requirements
-
DoD 8570.01-M compliance with Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II certification.

2+ years of experience with PostgreSQL.
Preferred Skills

Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB, and NoSQL technologies.

Background in data flow optimization, system integration, and database migration.

Familiarity with containerized database environments (Docker, Kubernetes).

Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
