We are seeking a skilled and motivated Assistant Business Manager (Accountant) to play a key leadership role in managing the Colleges financial operations, reporting, and compliance. This position is ideal for an experienced accountant or finance professional looking to apply their expertise in a purpose-driven educational environment.
About the Role
Reporting to the Business Manager, the Assistant Business Manager oversees the day-to-day financial management and administration of the College. This role will suit a finance leader who thrives in a hands-on environment, providing financial insight and guidance to support decision-making and long-term planning.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Preparation of monthly financial statements, reports, and performance analysis.
- Providing advice and guidance to Budget Managers on effective financial management and stewardship.
- Assisting with budget preparation, monitoring, and forecasting.
- Preparing the MACS Annual Financial Statements and coordinating external audit activities.
- Ensuring compliance with ATO, FBT, GST and other statutory requirements.
- Overseeing payroll, accounts payable, and receivable processes as required.
- Developing and maintaining financial policies, internal controls, and risk management frameworks.
- Supporting and mentoring the Finance and Administration team, fostering professionalism and continuous improvement.
- Contributing to the 10-Year Business Plan, including variance analysis and financial forecasting.
About You
You are a proactive and detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys balancing financial rigour with leadership and collaboration. You will bring both technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills, along with a commitment to supporting the mission and values of a Catholic school community.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience in accounting or financial management, ideally within the education or not-for-profit sector.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
- Minimum 5 years experience in a finance or accounting role with leadership responsibilities.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to the Catholic ethos and values of Thomas Carr College.
- Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
Desirable:
- Prior experience in a school or MACS environment.
- Familiarity with Synergetic or similar finance systems.
- Postgraduate qualifications such as CA, CPA, or MBA.
