Job Description:

We are seeking a compassionate and highly organized Registered Nurse (RN) to join our school health team at Cecil county, MD. The school nurse will support student health and wellness by delivering direct care, managing chronic conditions, and promoting a healthy school environment. The ideal candidate has strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a passion for working with children and adolescents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct nursing care to students for illness, injuries, and medical emergencies
  • Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and school policy
  • Maintain accurate health records, immunization compliance, and student medication logs
  • Develop care plans for students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies)
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, and administrators to support student health needs
  • Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and 504 Plan meetings when required
  • Monitor for signs of communicable diseases and assist with infection control protocols
  • Educate students and staff on health and wellness topics (e.g., hygiene, nutrition, first aid)
  • Respond to health-related emergencies and coordinate care with emergency services as need

Qualifications:

  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of the state of Maryland
  • CPR/BLS certification required (First Aid/ACLS preferred)
  • Associate or Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience (pediatric, public health, or school nursing preferred)
  • Excellent communication, assessment, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and respond quickly in emergency situations
  • Background check and fingerprint clearance (as required by school district policy)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with children or adolescents in clinical or educational settings
  • Familiarity with FERPA and HIPAA regulations in school environments
  • Bilingual in [Insert Language] a plus (e.g., Spanish, Creole)
  • Knowledge of special education accommodations and student care coordination
