SUMMARY:
Our client, a prestigious global law firm, seeks an associate with 6-8 years experience to join the data center energy team in their Washington DC office. Ideal candidates will have experience representing clients in data center related transactions or regulatory proceedings, working before FERC or state utility commissions, strong research and writing skills, a keen interest in energy, a collegial approach to practicing law, and an interest in building and being part of a practice that works at the intersection of energy transactional and regulatory disciplines.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Structure and negotiate high-value agreements, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), green energy supply arrangements, and electricity infrastructure agreements.
- Represent clients in proceedings before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and state public utility commissions regarding rate cases, rulemakings, and resource planning.
- Advise on site selection, land use, permitting, and construction contracts for new data center builds and expansions.
- Identify and resolve business and legal risks within evolving regulatory environments, often managing outside counsel for specific regional matters.
- Perform additional duties, tasks or projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- AM Law 100 to 200 firm Experience
- JD (Juris Doctor) Degree from Accredited Law School
- Active Washington D.C. Bar Membership in Good Standing
- Must have 6 – 8 years of experience representing clients in data center related transactions or regulatory proceedings, working before FERC or state utility commissions.
- Excellent research and writing skills
- A collegial approach to practicing law
