Lead Network Consultant

 Job Description:

Main responsibilities:

  • Translate the organisational/business requirements to technical requirements. Produce the requirement documents for semi-complex (or) complex systems.
  • Apply well-defined design policy guidelines and parameters to draft design specifications of infrastructure components that address usage, performance and security requirements
  • Produce high level architecture designs to meet customer requirements for semi-complex (or) complex systems. Articulate with sufficient knowledge to convince and explain customer on the design.
  • Produce low level technical designs from high level architecture designs. Translate a broader infrastructure design or blueprint into technical specifications and details.
  • Refine design specifications and prototypes based on inputs from internal / external stakeholders
  • Recommends/designs structures and tools for systems which meet business needs and takes into account target environment, performance & security requirements and existing systems.
  • Produces outline system designs and specifications, and overall architectures, topologies, configuration databases and design documentation of networks and networking technology within the organisation.
  • Specifies user/system interfaces, including validation and error correction procedures, processing rules, access, security and audit controls.
  • Assesses associated risks, and specifies recovery routines and contingency procedures.
  • Assess potential risk, infrastructure redundancy of systems and utilities at the site against safety and performance standards
  • Draft a detailed infrastructure installation plan and layout at the site, including suitable infrastructure components to support operations
  • Installs or removes hardware and/or software, using supplied installation instructions and tools including, where appropriate, handover to the client.
  • Deploy and decommission software operating systems according to broad organisational direction and guidelines
  • Develop a comprehensive testing plan to assess stability, suitability and performance of on-site infrastructure and systems
  • Reports details of all hardware/software items that have been installed and removed so that configuration management records can be updated.
  • Contributes to the development of installation procedures and standards.
  • Reviews change requests.
  • Identify potential causes and triggers of malfunctions in infrastructure components
  • Implement solutions to correct infrastructure- related problems or equipment malfunctions
  • Conducts tests, corrects malfunctions, and documents results in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • Takes action to ensure targets are met within established safety and quality procedures, including, where appropriate, handover to the client.
  • Provides specialist guidance and advice to less experienced colleagues to ensure best use is made of available assets, and to maintain or improve the installation service.
  • Corrects malfunctions, calling on other experienced colleagues and external resources if required.
  • Develops installation procedures and standards, and schedules installation work.
  • Documents details of all hardware/software items that have been installed and removed so that configuration management records can be updated.
  • Manage user network access in accordance to organisational guidelines and specifications
  • Identify suitable network management tools to be used
  • Implement procedures to ensure regular network reporting, administration and assessment of stability
  • Conduct basic compatibility assessment of specific components, sub-systems and their interfaces
  • Utilise basic integration tools to integrate selected system components, using protocols that are accepted at each interface
  • Configures the hardware environment, produces integration test specifications, conducts tests and records the details of any failures.
  • Carries out and reports fault diagnosis relating to moderately complex problems.
  • Propose potential changes or modifications to integration plan based on observed integration outcomes
  • Drive the troubleshooting with internal/external system components.
  • Reviews requirements and specifications, and defines test conditions.
  • Designs test cases and test scripts under own direction, mapping back to pre-determined criteria, recording and reporting outcomes.
  • Accepts responsibility for creation of test cases using own in-depth technical analysis of both functional and non-functional specifications (such as reliability, efficiency, usability, maintainability and portability).
  • Produces test scripts, materials and regression test packs to test new and amended software or services.
  • Conducts tests as defined in an integration test specification, records the details of any failures, and carries out fault diagnosis relating to simple failures, reporting the results of the diagnosis in a clear and concise manner.
  • Creates traceability records, from test cases back to requirements.
  • Records and analyses actions and results, and maintains a defect register.
  • Reviews test results and modifies tests if necessary. Provides reports on progress, anomalies, risks and issues associated with the overall project. Reports on system quality and collects metrics on test cases. Provides specialist advice to support others.

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Degree in Computing engineering or equivalent
  • Certification in CCNP or CCIE-R&S will be a plus
  • Minimum 6-10 years IT and Network experience
  • Enterprise Network Design Wired and Wireless network fundamental
  • Data Center Network and Network Security Design
  • Knowledge in enterprise network, SD WAN/LAN, Cisco wireless technologies and Data center
