About the job Project Lead

Project Lead

The Project Lead is accountable for the end-to-end delivery of a single complex project, ensuring scope, timelines, dependencies, risks, and outcomes are actively managed from mobilisation through to completion. The role owns delivery execution, translating approved process designs and requirements into structured plans and ensuring work is delivered on time, to quality, and within agreed constraints. The Project Lead is not responsible for defining processes or requirements, but for ensuring they are implemented effectively.

Key Responsibilities

The Project Lead is responsible for establishing and maintaining the integrated project plan, including milestones, dependencies, resourcing, and delivery sequencing. The Lead ensures all workstreams remain aligned to agreed objectives and that delivery progress is visible, controlled, and predictable.

The role manages day-to-day delivery execution, coordinating across business, technology, and external partners to resolve issues, manage risks, and remove blockers. This includes ownership of delivery governance, status reporting, escalation management, and decision tracking.

The Project Lead ensures that outputs defined by the Process Optimisation Lead and Requirements Lead are translated into executable delivery activities. The Project Lead oversees testing, readiness, cutover planning, and implementation coordination to ensure solutions are deployed smoothly into live operations.

Stakeholder Management

The role acts as the primary delivery interface for stakeholders, providing clear, concise updates on progress, risks, and decisions. The Project Lead ensures expectations are managed, decisions are made at the right level, and delivery trade-offs are explicitly understood and agreed.

Scope of Accountability

The Project Lead owns:

  • Project planning and delivery execution
  • Risk, issue, and dependency management
  • Delivery governance and reporting
  • Coordination across all delivery parties
  • Implementation readiness and delivery assurance

The role does not own:

  • Process design or operating model definition
  • Requirements definition or backlog ownership
  • System configuration or technical architecture

Required Experience

Candidates must have demonstrable experience leading delivery of complex projects in consulting, government, or large enterprise environments. Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams, third parties, and senior stakeholders is essential.

Experience delivering CRM-enabled or operational transformation initiatives is advantageous, with a clear understanding of how business design, requirements, and delivery execution interlock.

Profile

The successful candidate will be structured, decisive, and delivery-focused. He/she will be comfortable operating under pressure, managing ambiguity, and holding teams accountable for outcomes. He/she will have strong judgement on sequencing, prioritisation, and risk, and the confidence to escalate early when delivery is at risk. This role suits someone who enjoys owning execution and ensuring plans turn into results.
