Must-Haves:

  1. BLS required upon hire - AHA American Heart Association
  2. Current certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within one year of hire date.
  3. Graduate of CAAHEP approved school of ultrasound or cardiovascular technology or equivalent experience.

Job Description:

Position Summary:
The Echo Sonographer performs a wide variety of technical procedures including adult and pediatric echo, stress echo, contrast imaging, agitated saline studies, and Holter analysis. They enter exam data into CPACS system, ensure completeness of exam, and prepare exams for interpretation. Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals.

Position Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs echocardiography on adults and pediatric patients following protocols and standard practices.
  • Reviews inpatient requisitions and prioritizes patient list, revising schedules as needed.
  • Performs required quality control checks and ensures procurement, storage, and routing of supplies for room operation.
  • Maintains reusable instruments and reviews patient information and orders before procedures.
  • Downloads examination images and data into PACS system and enters findings upon completion of exam.
  • Mentors and evaluates ultrasound students as required.
  • Communicates technical and patient care related information according to established processes and timelines.

Qualifications (External):

Job Requirements:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalency.
  • Graduate of CAAHEP approved school of ultrasound or cardiovascular technology or equivalent experience.

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of diagnostic ultrasound principles, concepts, and methodology sufficient to perform high-quality diagnostic studies.
  • Ability to identify differences between healthy and pathological areas and tailor the scope of an exam accordingly.
  • Knowledge of cardiac cross-sectional anatomy, pathophysiology, m-mode, doppler, and color flow characteristics.
  • Ability to recognize cardiac structures viewed from various angles and operate, maintain, and troubleshoot cardiovascular equipment.

Certifications/License:

  • Current certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within one year of hire date.
  • BLS required upon hire - AHA American Heart Association.
