About the Role

A growing engineering firm is seeking an Instrumentation Field Technician to support automation and control projects across a variety of client sites. This is a hands-on, field-based position critical to successful project delivery and client satisfaction. You will be the technical face of the project, responsible for the startup, calibration, and troubleshooting of a wide range of instrumentation and control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instrumentation Setup & Calibration:
    Work with flow, pressure, temperature, position, vibration, and current transmitters, as well as analyzers including pH, chlorine, turbidity, conductivity, fluoride, and more.

  • Electrical & PLC Troubleshooting:
    Identify and resolve issues related to 480VAC motor control systems, PLC equipment, and relay logic.

  • System Modifications:
    Perform mechanical and electrical modifications to equipment in the field as required.

  • Drawings & Documentation:
    Interpret and update Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Control Loop, and Control Panel drawings to reflect as-built conditions.

  • Networking & Computer Systems:
    Install and commission networking and computer equipment used in control systems.

  • Client Interaction & Administration:
    Maintain a professional presence at client sites, complete required documentation, and ensure communication is clear and consistent.

Qualifications

  • Technical associate degree or equivalent vocational training preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years experience with:

    • Instrumentation calibration and troubleshooting

    • PLC and motor control systems

    • Reading P&IDs and system wiring diagrams

    • Field equipment modifications (mechanical and electrical)

    • Networking and computer system setups

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Access).

  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel locally to client sites.

  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments (heights, confined spaces, temperature extremes, industrial hazards).
