Position Purpose
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating, and optimising all maintenance activities across farm and packhouse operations. This includes planning and scheduling preventative maintenance, coordinating reactive work, managing contractors, and ensuring assets remain safe, reliable, and compliant. The role ensures minimal downtime, efficient resource allocation, and long-term asset performance in a high-output agricultural environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Planning & Scheduling
- Develop, implement, and manage preventative maintenance plans for all farming and packhouse assets.
- Schedule maintenance tasks based on operational priorities, seasonal demands, and equipment performance.
- Prepare detailed job plans including labour, tools, materials, parts, and safety requirements.
- Ensure reactive and emergency work is coordinated effectively.
2. Asset & Systems Management
- Maintain accurate records of all equipment, infrastructure, and service history.
- Monitor asset performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Support the implementation of digital maintenance systems and best-practice processes.
- Contribute to asset lifecycle planning and capital replacement forecasts.
3. Technical Coordination & Support
- Coordinate with farm and packhouse teams to ensure maintenance tasks align with operational schedules.
- Work with internal technicians and external contractors to ensure timely, high-quality work.
- Assist with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, irrigation, and general infrastructure issues.
- Ensure OEM manuals, drawings, and procedures are accessible and properly interpreted by technicians.
4. Compliance, Health & Safety
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety, environmental, and food-safety standards.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment, buildings, and critical systems.
- Identify hazards, propose corrective actions, and support a proactive safety culture.
- Maintain compliance documentation, permits, and contractor safety records.
5. Procurement & Inventory Management
- Manage spare-parts inventory and ensure critical components are stocked.
- Work with suppliers to source materials, tools, and specialised services.
- Assist with cost control, budgeting, and evaluating supplier performance.
- Track maintenance expenses and support financial reporting.
Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and/or irrigation systems.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, manuals, and equipment specifications.
- Familiarity with agricultural or industrial machinery is advantageous.
- Experience with CMMS or maintenance planning software is beneficial.
Operational & Organisational Skills
- Excellent planning, scheduling, and organisational capabilities.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to prioritise work effectively.
- Ability to coordinate multiple activities under seasonal time pressures.

Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant technical qualification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance (preferred).
- 3 to 5 years experience in maintenance, planning, or engineering coordination.
- Experience in agriculture, food production, packhouse operations, or FMCG is advantageous.
- Computer literacy, including maintenance software, Excel, and digital reporting tools.
- Valid drivers licence.
ANNUAL SALARY: $77K - $95K
