Position Summary:
The Senior Commercial & Contracts Director is a strategic leadership role responsible for managing all commercial and contractual functions across the organization. The position ensures robust contract administration, commercial performance, and risk mitigation while driving profitability and supporting business growth. This role leads the commercial and contracts teams, playing a critical role in high-level negotiations and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Commercial Strategy & Planning
- Develop and execute commercial strategies that support organizational goals.
- Identify opportunities to enhance revenue and operational efficiency.
2. Contract Management
- Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and administration of contracts with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Ensure all contracts comply with legal and regulatory standards.
3. Risk Management
- Assess and mitigate commercial and contractual risks across projects.
- Recommend proactive solutions to reduce financial and legal exposure.
4. Financial Oversight
- Monitor project budgets and expenditures, ensuring alignment with forecasts.
- Authorize cost variations and ensure financial accountability.
5. Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and manage the commercial and contracts teams.
- Foster collaboration with departments including project management, engineering, and procurement.
6. Stakeholder Management
- Cultivate strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Represent the organization in negotiations and dispute resolutions.
7. Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure adherence to internal policies, contractual obligations, and applicable laws.
- Provide timely reports and insights to senior management on commercial matters.
Internal Relationships: Project Staff
External Relationships: Clients, Main Contractors, Subcontractors, and Suppliers
Qualifications & Experience:
- Engineering Background is preferable
- Masters degree (e.g., MBA or Construction Law) is an advantage
- 15 - 20 years of relevant experience, including 8 - 10 years in a senior leadership role
- Proven background in large-scale construction or interior fit-out projects
- Strong experience in claims management, contract negotiation, and dispute resolution
Skills & Competencies:
- Deep understanding of construction contracts (FIDIC, JCT, etc.) and procurement practices
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and leadership skills
- Solid financial management capabilities including budgeting and forecasting
- Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and project management software
