Our client is a Melbourne-based design practice specialising in architecture, interior design and urban design, with a strong focus on residential, commercial, rail and infrastructure projects across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
There is a current need for a Senior Architect who will be responsible for contributing to the delivery of projects, working effectively as a member of a team of architects throughout each phase of a building's design and construction.
While the specific projects may vary, the role will generally involve the following primary responsibilities:
- Project coordination and service delivery to clients
- Assessing client needs and managing delivery to the brief
- Identifying potential risks
- Creating architectural documentation
- Supervising other architects
- Overseeing external consultant inputs
- Overseeing the construction process
An Architect will also be required to build and manage key client and stakeholder relationships, and escalate any issues to the Principal / Project Director in the first instance.
In addition, you will contribute to the development of procedural best practice and quality assurance, while supporting and mentoring junior team members.
Key Accountabilities
Assessing Client Needs
- Attend client meetings
- Report to clients and keep them informed of project status
- Scope projects, develop the client brief, and continuously manage and update the brief
- Agree on client and project requirements
Creating Architectural Documentation: Drawings, Schedules & Specifications
- Concept / Schematic Design
- Design Development
- Contract Documentation
- Contract Administration
Overseeing the Construction Process
- On-site supervision during the construction phase
- Overseeing delivery by contractors and consultants
- Resolving problems and issues as they arise
- Managing all Contract Administration responsibilities and tasks
Skills & Capabilities
- Technical expertise across all facets of architecture
- Strong organisational and planning abilities to manage project delivery from pre-design, concept/schematic design, design development, construction documentation, tendering, through to contract administration
- Strong CAD and Revit skills
- Capable hand sketching skills to communicate ideas and resolve detailing
- Strong project management skills to lead internal and external teams
- Effective planning and prioritisation skills
- Strong analytical and critical thinking to assess and coordinate consultant inputs
- High-level problem-solving ability
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships
- Experience supervising and mentoring others, setting clear direction and reviewing progress
