About the role
We are seeking a technically strong and experienced Financial Accountant to join our growing finance team.
This role is ideal for an accounting professional with experience supporting an Australian technology, SaaS, software, digital platform, or similar fast-paced business environment. The successful candidate will take ownership of core accounting functions while supporting ongoing finance transformation, process improvement, and automation initiatives.
As the business continues to automate its Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), and invoicing processes, we are looking for someone who can operate at a senior accounting level and confidently manage month-end activities, financial reporting, reconciliations, and day-to-day accounting operations.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Australian accounting practices and be comfortable working within a technology-driven environment where processes and systems are continuously being improved.
Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring financial records are accurate, complete, and up to date.
- Perform monthly Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet reviews, investigating and resolving variances.
- Prepare and maintain detailed balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of outstanding items.
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
- Maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger accounts and supporting schedules.
- Process and review accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions as required.
- Prepare bank reconciliations and monitor organizational cash flow.
- Assist with payroll processing and ensure compliance with relevant tax obligations.
- Prepare and submit BAS (Business Activity Statements) and other statutory financial reports.
- Support financial audits and liaise with external accountants, auditors, and advisors.
- Contribute to finance process improvement initiatives and support ongoing automation and system implementation projects.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain documentation of accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Provide financial insights and support management with reporting and analysis as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of accounting or financial accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and month-end close procedures.
- Experience preparing and reviewing Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheets.
- Demonstrated experience performing account reconciliations and resolving discrepancies.
- Familiarity with Australian accounting practices, tax regulations, and financial reporting requirements is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, or similar ERP/accounting systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting finance transformation, automation, or system implementation projects.
- Previous experience in Australian accounting environments.
- Strong Excel and financial reporting skills.
- Experience working with small to medium-sized businesses across multiple industries.
- Knowledge of payroll processing and related compliance requirements.
