Role: Civil CAD Technician

Primary Function

Perform drafting tasks using fundamental skills and techniques to prepare utility permit drawings. Work will be closely supervised and aimed at developing proficiency in drafting practices, standards, and procedures in line with corporate and client requirements.



Duties & Responsibilities

• Collect and organize technical data from various sources to support the development of engineering plans for design and construction.
• Revise CAD drawings based on engineering markups.
• Prepare alignments for field construction purposes.
• Provide engineering support tasks under direct supervision (e.g., transmittals).
• Assist with minor design work and basic calculations as needed.
• Apply corporate and client drafting standards and engineering practices.
• Ensure the quality and accuracy of all assigned work.
• Prepare as-built documentation drawings.
• Review drawings for accuracy and completeness.
• Apply knowledge of engineering drawings, technical specifications, and construction documents.
• Interpret and apply relevant design criteria, regulations, and codes to project plans.
• Identify potential project-related issues and propose possible solutions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
  
  
  

Qualifications / Experience

• Associates degree in Drafting & Design required; a certificate in Drafting & Design with relevant experience may be considered.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD 2018 and Civil 3D required; 3D CAD experience preferred.
• Strong foundation in basic drafting, including drawing scales, layouts (Paper space/Model space), and reproducing engineering markups.
• Proficiency with CAD, word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
• Knowledge of geometry at the college level.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Familiarity with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and data integration into CAD preferred.
