Technical Lead, AI-First Product Engineering

RentRedi is looking for a Technical Lead who wants to help define how product engineering works in the AI era.

This role is for someone who believes AI changes more than how fast code gets written. It changes how teams understand customer problems, shape solutions, break down work, test ideas, review code, debug issues, and ship product. We want a hands-on lead who can help our team use AI to move faster, think better, and build safer software.

You will lead product engineering work across customer-facing workflows for landlords and tenants, with a focus on making RentRedi simpler, smarter, and easier to trust.

Responsibilities

• Lead AI-first product engineering practices across the team.
• Partner early with product, design, support, QA, and engineering leadership to shape solutions before implementation begins.
• Break product work into clear, AI-assisted development plans with strong context, risks, tests, and validation steps.
• Use AI to accelerate planning, implementation, test generation, debugging, documentation, and review preparation.
• Establish standards for how engineers use AI responsibly, including context preparation, prompt quality, code review, test expectations, security checks, and release validation.
• Lead delivery of customer-facing product work across landlord, tenant, onboarding, payment, maintenance, messaging, and operational workflows.
• Improve the product experience by focusing on confusing flows, error states, empty states, loading states, permissions, and edge cases.
• Raise engineering quality without becoming a bottleneck.
• Improve code patterns, testing, observability, deployment safety, and long-term maintainability.
• Help the team move faster without becoming reckless.

Major Qualifications

• 10+ years preferred experience in software development, with time as a senior engineer, technical lead, staff engineer, or hands-on engineering leader.
• Strong practical experience using AI development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, or similar systems.
• Clear judgment about where AI helps, where it creates risk, and how teams should validate AI-assisted work before it reaches production.
• Experience leading product engineering work in a fast-moving environment.
• Strong full-stack engineering judgment across frontend, backend, APIs, cloud services, and production systems.
• Experience working in large, long-lived production codebases with mixed legacy and modern patterns.
• Strong code review habits that reduce bugs, improve maintainability, and help engineers grow.
• Experience improving test coverage, quality gates, observability, and deployment safety.
• Comfort working with React, Node.js, Firebase, NoSQL, or similar modern web technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building AI-enabled product workflows, guided onboarding, agent-assisted customer experiences, internal engineering automation, or LLM-powered features.
• Experience creating team standards for AI-assisted development.
• Experience in PropTech, FinTech, payments, marketplaces, or workflow-heavy SaaS products.
• Experience mentoring junior and mid-level engineers in a fast-moving startup environment.
• Experience modernizing a production system without pausing product delivery.
