Overview
A well-established and highly regarded law firm is seeking an experienced Trusts Lawyer to join its busy team in Stamford. This is a fantastic opportunity for a specialist in trust work, or for an experienced private client lawyer with a strong background in trusts who is looking to focus their career in this area. The firm has one of the largest private client teams in the region, providing high-quality advice and support to a diverse range of clients.

The Role

You will work closely with senior members of the team, providing expert advice and handling a wide range of trust-related matters. The position offers the chance to manage complex and rewarding work while collaborating with colleagues and other professional advisers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise clients and colleagues on the creation, administration, and termination of new and existing trusts

  • Handle general trust administration, including:

    • Drafting deeds and related documentation

    • Preparing trust tax returns and accounts

    • Using HMRCs Trust Registration Service

  • Provide advice on Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax planning

  • Advise on Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief

  • Prepare Declarations of Trust

  • Collaborate with other departments and external advisers on trust-related matters

  • Assist with will drafting, particularly those involving trusts for complex family arrangements

  • Support the administration of both taxable and non-taxable estates

  • Contribute to business development and marketing activities to promote the department

Person Specification

Essential

  • Solicitor or Legal Executive

  • Significant experience in tax and trust matters

  • Strong interest in trusts and private client work

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills

  • Commercial awareness and the ability to explain complex issues to non-specialists

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Knowledge of the conveyancing process, Money Laundering Regulations, and Solicitors Accounts Rules

  • IT literate with experience of case management systems

Desirable

  • STEP Diploma (or willingness to study towards it)

  • Experience using SOS Connect

  • Marketing and business development skills
