About this Opportunity

The Richmond Country Club (RCC) is recruiting an Hourly Full-time Seasonal Lifeguard to join our Aquatics team and reports to the Director of Racquets and Athletics (DRA) and the Head Lifeguard. We are seeking energetic and self-motivated lifeguards to add to our team for the upcoming summer season! We are committed to providing opportunities for growth.

What are we looking for and what can you bring to the table?

The RCC Lifeguards duties are:

  • Greets members and guests and assists with questions.
  • Supervises and observes swimmers continuously to ensure their safety by constantly scanning lifeguard zones.
  • Responsible for the safety of all members and guests using the pool.
  • Teach swimming lessons to both, individuals and groups and water safety skills to a variety of ages (commission can be earned for teaching).
  • Create lesson plans and written swim reports when needed.
  • Providing first aid as needed throughout the club.
  • Perform routine tasks such as opening/closing the pool and setting up lesson/deck equipment.
  • Assist members with any questions or concerns.
  • Ensure pool area is neat and report any maintenance needs.
  • Provide friendly communication to the members, including providing useful information, techniques, or support with aquatics-related matters.
  • Ensures maintenance to upkeep a clean pool and pool deck.
  • Keeps pool entry area neat and organized and periodically conducts checks.
  • Picks up all towels not being used by members and guests in pool areas.
  • Helps with the organization and monitoring of pool games.
  • Maintains all necessary records.
  • Ensures to keep certifications valid.
  • Additional duties as directed by Dir. of Racquets & Athletics and/ or Head Lifeguard.

  • Previous experience as a lifeguard / swim instructor
  • Genuine willingness to learn; Self-motivated and takes initiative
  • Must be able to work outdoors considering the pool environment, temperatures, and standing for long periods
  • Effective communication skills
  • Enthusiasm and skill to conduct swimming lessons
  • Create informative and memorable member experiences

Required Licenses/ Certificates/ Skills:

  • WSI - Water Safety Inspector - Required
  • NL - National Lifeguard (Pool Option) - Required
  • Standard First Aid, CPR-C with AED - Required

Shift Requirement:

  • Schedule: Full-time requirement
  • Hours of Work: 30+ hours per week
  • Flexibility: Flexible to work weekends and holidays is required
  • Start Date and Season Requirement: May to August (Start in May)

More information on the role:

  • Job Environment: On-site only, Outdoor Pool areas
  • Salary: $20.00 per hour
  • Commissions: Commission for lessons ($5 per 30-minute lesson- private and group)
  • Ability to commute/relocate: Richmond, BC- reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

The Racquets & Athletics Operations:

The Racquets and Athletics team consists of and looks after the following activities: Tennis- four indoor and four outdoor courts; Pools and swimming lessons; Gymnasium and Fitness studio including guidance from certified professional trainers and pros in the field; and Summer camps. The Racquets Reception provides and manages the activities and schedules.

Aquatics

Our heated outdoor 24 by 58-foot pool is located in a beautiful parklike setting. Open May through September, our aquatic services include private and group Aqua Quest swimming lessons, adult Aquafit classes and themed programs and special events to make each swimming season a memorable one. A conveniently located cabana offers poolside dining for the entire family.
