About the Role
The Data Engineer for Legacy Platform Support is a subject matter expert responsible for maintaining the operational integrity of the existing SQL Server-based Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
The mission of this role is to ensure business continuity by providing expert-level incident resolution and break-fix support for legacy ETL pipelines built with Informatica PowerCenter and SSIS.
This individual will serve as the primary technical resource during the transition to the Snowflake platform, rapidly diagnosing and resolving complex issues within the legacy stack to minimize disruption to core business operations.
Key Responsibilities
Incident Management & Resolution

Act as the primary technical contact for triaging, investigating, and resolving all job failures (Job Abends) and data quality incidents related to the legacy SQL EDW.

Resolve failures in Informatica workflows/sessions and SSIS packages, ensuring data processing jobs meet SLAs and complete successfully.
Legacy Code Maintenance (Break-Fix)

Perform targeted code changes in Informatica PowerCenter (mappings, sessions, workflows) and SSIS packages to correct defects.

Develop and modify T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, and other SQL Server database objects to implement data fixes.
Root Cause Analysis

Conduct deep-dive analyses of recurring incidents to identify underlying causes within the legacy architecture.

Debug complex, multi-stage ETL jobs to trace data discrepancies from source systems (including IBM DB2) to final data marts.
Collaboration & Coordination

Partner with IT Operations to manage Control-M job schedules and dependencies.

Coordinate with upstream and downstream teams to address data corrections or implement synchronized changes.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing

Create, update, and maintain technical runbooks and knowledge base articles for legacy system troubleshooting and recovery procedures.

Document root causes and permanent solutions to contribute to ongoing Problem Management processes.
Required Skills & Experience
Professional Experience
-
4+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on traditional ETL and data warehousing environments.

Background in service-oriented or managed operations environments (ITSM/ITIL), with proven incident and problem management experience.
Legacy Data Platforms & ETL Tools

Expert-level proficiency in Informatica PowerCenter, including development, debugging, and performance tuning.

Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, including advanced T-SQL scripting and SSIS development.

Highly preferred: experience with IBM DB2 as a source system for data analysis and troubleshooting.
Operational Tooling

Experience with BMC Control-M or similar enterprise job scheduling tools.

Proficiency with ServiceNow or other enterprise ITSM platforms.
