Job Openings Founding CTO – AI for Materials

About the job Founding CTO – AI for Materials

Have you trained AI models for materials and shown a measured uplift? Join as co-founder and CTO.

A seed-stage AI-for-materials company in New York turns unpublished lab data from academia into new, synthesizable materials. Its seed round is closing. As co-founder and CTO you'd own the AI engineering and the data-and-discovery engine, and build the team after the round. For a top builder who isn't ready for co-founder risk, there is also a founding-engineer track.

What you'll own

  • The AI engineering behind materials discovery, end to end
  • The data-and-discovery engine: data, architecture and measured uplift
  • Building and leading the engineering team after the seed

Must-haves

  • You've built, trained and deployed AI models for materials (AI for biology or protein-structure work doesn't count here)
  • You build a model end to end, from data to architecture to measured uplift, and you're strong on data pipelines, not research only
  • You use frontier models in your work
  • 4+ years of real industry experience (roughly 4–10)
  • In person in New York, 9-9-6

Bonus points

  • A materials model with a measured uplift from data you collected yourself
  • AI-for-science work at a leading lab, a commercial PhD or postdoc, or an AI-materials startup
  • A network you can recruit from

What's in it for you

  • $120k–$500k base + 1–20% equity, depending on the track
  • A co-founder seat at the start of a new company

Good to know

  • Full-time, in person in New York, 9-9-6
  • Sponsorship is limited: please tell us your exact work authorization up front
  • Process: screening with the CEO → technical conversation → take-home (a theory problem, 24 hours) with a follow-up → final technical round with an advisor (coding challenge plus a deep conversation) → a work trial of about a week in New York → offer

When you apply, please include

  • Your CV (PDF), your LinkedIn URL, and GitHub or papers if you have them
  • The materials model you built, and the uplift it delivered
  • Whether you're interested in the co-founder (CTO) track or the founding-engineer track
  • Your current location, and confirmation that in person in New York works for you
  • Your visa or citizenship status, and if you'll need sponsorship
  • Your base salary expectation, your notice period, and any other interview processes you're in
