Are you an experienced Technical Manager from the fresh produce sector looking for a role with broader influence?

This opportunity offers responsibility for both technical compliance and product performance across a large-scale, fast-moving fresh produce operation. Rather than focusing solely on audits and food safety, you'll play a key role in improving yield, reducing waste, optimising raw material utilisation and supporting commercially sound technical decisions.

Working closely with operational and commercial teams, you'll help ensure products consistently meet customer expectations while driving continuous improvement throughout the site.

The opportunity

This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for the Technical & Quality function at a large storage and distribution site operating 24/7.

You'll lead a team of 15 technical professionals while providing strategic technical direction across quality, compliance, product performance and operational excellence.

The role offers significant autonomy and visibility, working closely with senior management to influence both technical standards and commercial performance.


What you'll be responsible for

Technical & Quality Leadership

  • Lead the site's Technical & Quality function
  • Develop and maintain the Food Safety & Quality Management System
  • Lead HACCP and BRCGS activities
  • Ensure compliance with customer, retailer and legal standards
  • Prepare for and lead customer and third-party audits


Product Performance

A major focus of this role is improving product performance throughout the operation by:

  • Maximising product yield
  • Reducing waste
  • Improving raw material utilisation
  • Supporting shelf-life optimisation
  • Driving product quality improvements
  • Providing technical input into operational and commercial decisions
  • Monitoring asset capability and product performance


Leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of 15 direct reports
  • Build capability within the technical department
  • Support succession planning
  • Promote continuous improvement across the site


Customer & Supplier Management

  • Act as the main technical contact for key customers
  • Investigate complaints and implement corrective actions
  • Carry out supplier audits
  • Maintain strong supplier quality standards


Continuous Improvement

  • Analyse technical and operational KPI data
  • Lead root cause investigations
  • Deliver improvement projects across quality, efficiency and product performance


We're looking for someone who has

  • Senior Technical Manager experience within fresh produce
  • Experience leading technical teams in a large operational environment
  • Strong understanding of produce quality, storage and product management
  • Experience improving yield, reducing waste and optimising product utilisation
  • Extensive knowledge of BRCGS, HACCP and Quality Management Systems
  • Experience leading customer audits
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
    

Qualifications

  • Degree in Food Science, Agriculture, Horticulture or similar
  • HACCP Level 3/4
  • Food Safety Level 3
  • Internal and External Auditing qualifications
  • Full UK driving licence
