Fractional CFO (6–8 Hours per Week) – FinTech / Remote

PLEASE READ THE FULL JOB DESCRIPTION BEFORE APPLYING

Location: Remote
Working Pattern: Fractional – approximately 6–8 hours per week
Environment: Early-Stage FinTech

About the Opportunity

Our client is an early-stage FinTech business developing technology designed to improve access to financial services for businesses operating internationally.

The company is entering an important stage of its development, with increasing focus on commercial readiness, fundraising, governance and building out its senior leadership capability.

As part of this next phase, the business is looking for an experienced Fractional Chief Financial Officer to join its developing executive leadership team.

This is not a traditional full-time CFO appointment.

The role is designed for an experienced finance leader who can provide approximately 6–8 hours of senior-level support per week and is comfortable participating in an early-stage venture alongside other compatible professional commitments.

You will work closely with the Founder/CEO and wider leadership team, providing strategic financial leadership while helping establish the financial foundations required for future growth and investment.

This engagement is likely to suit someone motivated by building longer-term enterprise value rather than someone seeking a conventional full-time executive package at this stage.

Further details regarding the engagement and participation structure will be discussed directly with candidates progressing through the process.

Application – Mandatory Qualifying Questions

Please submit your CV together with a cover letter. Within your cover letter, you must answer each of the mandatory qualifying questions below.

  1. What experience do you have operating as a CFO, Finance Director, Fractional CFO or equivalent senior finance leader within FinTech, financial services or a high-growth technology business?
  2. What experience do you have supporting fundraising, investor readiness and investor due diligence? Please provide a specific example and explain your personal involvement.
  3. Please provide an example of a financial model, fundraising model or scenario-planning exercise you have personally led or materially developed.
  4. What experience do you have working with early-stage or pre-revenue businesses where finance infrastructure, processes and controls were still being developed?
  5. Do you have experience within trade finance, payments, lending, structured finance, banking or another relevant financial-services environment? Please explain.
  6. This opportunity requires approximately 6–8 hours per week. Can you consistently commit to this level of involvement alongside your other professional commitments?

These questions are mandatory and form part of our initial assessment process. Applications that do not provide a clear answer to every mandatory qualifying question will be automatically disqualified and will not be considered further.

What You'll Be Doing

You will provide strategic financial leadership as the business prepares for fundraising and its next stage of development, including:

  • Developing and maintaining financial models, forecasts and scenario planning
  • Supporting fundraising strategy and investor readiness
  • Supporting investor discussions and due diligence
  • Advising on financial strategy, capital requirements and cash/runway planning
  • Establishing appropriate financial reporting, governance and controls
  • Providing financial input into commercial models and strategic partnerships
  • Supporting Board and investor reporting
  • Working with external accountants and specialist advisers
  • Helping establish a scalable finance function

The emphasis is on high-value financial leadership rather than routine transactional finance or bookkeeping.

What We're Looking For

You should bring:

  • CFO, Fractional CFO, Finance Director or equivalent senior experience
  • Strong financial modelling and forecasting capability
  • Demonstrable fundraising and investor-facing experience
  • Early-stage/startup experience
  • Strong financial governance knowledge
  • Commercial judgement
  • Confidence working directly with founders and senior stakeholders
  • The ability to create infrastructure rather than rely upon an established finance function
  • The ability to make meaningful executive-level impact within 6–8 hours per week

Experience within FinTech, trade finance, payments, banking, lending, structured finance or other regulated financial services would be particularly valuable.

Engagement Structure

This is a flexible, fractional engagement of approximately 6–8 hours per week within an early-stage FinTech venture.

It is designed for someone comfortable with a structure centred on longer-term participation in company growth rather than a conventional executive package at this stage.

Full details of the participation structure will be discussed with candidates progressing through the process.
