Duty Engineer - Rove La Mer

 Job Description:

The Duty Engineer role is responsible for the general administration of the Technical Services Department working along with the Engineering Manager. It includes proper maintenance and repair of all building fixtures, fittings, and equipment as technical improvements, preventive maintenance, and utilities consumption control.

Key accountabilities & Activities

Administration

  • Oversee scheduling of engineering staff to ensure maximum productivity.
  • Monitor performance of engineering staff and communicates this to each staff either personally.
  • Motivate staff by providing positive feedback and reinforcement.
  • Participate in training programs or workshops to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and compliance standards, including fire safety regulations, health and safety guidelines, and building codes.
  • Treat all Rovesters with respect and integrity.
  • Always keep a good image following Rove Hotel standard.
  • Accomplish a set of additional duties such as attending meetings and trainings, and other specific duties related to the job function.
  • Maintenance and Repairs
  • Conduct regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems throughout the hotel.
  • Troubleshooting and resolve issues related to equipment malfunctions, leaks, faulty wiring, or other technical problems.
  • Plan and implements a preventive maintenance system to try and achieve zero defects for all equipment in the hotel.
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to guest requests for maintenance or repairs.
  • Monitor and maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies required for maintenance and repairs.
  • Coordinate with suppliers for timely procurement of necessary materials. Keep track of equipment warranties and expiration dates
  • Operational Support
  • Address concerns related to room facilities, such as air conditioning, heating, lighting, plumbing, or electrical issues.
  • Provide excellent customer service and ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Act as a first responder in emergency situations and implement appropriate solutions to minimize disruption and ensure guest safety.
  • Work closely with other hotel departments, such as housekeeping, front office, and food and beverage, to address maintenance-related issues and ensure smooth operations.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities that may impact guest services to minimize inconvenience.

  • Safety and Compliance
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
  • Keep equipment logs, work orders, and service reports up to date.
  • Document any findings, recommendations, or changes made during the maintenance process.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Follow relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards to ensure compliance.
  • Report any safety concerns or hazards promptly to the appropriate authorities.
  • Promote energy-efficient practices within the hotel.
  • Identify opportunities for energy conservation and suggest improvements or upgrades to reduce environmental impact and lower operational costs.

Background, skills & qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or Bachelor's degree in related discipline is highly desirable.
  • Technical certifications or vocational training in a relevant field, such as electrical, mechanical, or HVAC systems.

Job-Specific Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge,
  • Strong problem-solving skills to quickly identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining various engineering equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, risk assessment, and proper handling of hazardous materials.
  • Understanding fire safety procedures and emergency response protocols.
  • Able to clearly communicate technical information to non-technical staff or guests when required.
  • Must be well-organized to handle multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively,
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Able to work irregular hours as engineering issues can arise at any time.
