Nursey Production Manager

 Job Description:

Our client is a leading garden design and build consultancy, providing high-quality landscaping solutions for residential and commercial clients. They are passionate about transforming outdoor spaces and take pride in delivering exceptional service. They are now seeking a Nursey Plant Manager to support their growing team. This role is ideal for someone with experience in a garden centre, nursery, or a similar horticultural environment.

Job Summary:

Nursery management: To ensure that the nursery site and sales areas are managed in a timely and professional manner, Well presented, tidy and organized.

Plant Husbandry: Ensure that the primary focus is on plants and plant health and continual improvement of the plant stock on site, Apply the highest standards of professional plant care.

Horticultural standards & Techniques: Install and apply the best practices to ensure that the highest standards horticultural techniques are employed and always implemented.

Plant Nutrition: Pest and disease control: ensure that the very best systems and techniques are applied in an environmental and where possible an organic approach.

Pruning and training: Ensure that all stock is pruned and shaped in accordance with the desired outcome in a timely fashion to achieve apply the correct method to achieve maximum growth.

Records and reporting: Ensure that all records and reports are maintained in a professional manner, recording plant movements, fertilizing and spraying records. Retain all records to fulfil any statutory state department reporting obligations.

Picking and packing: Selecting and preparing stock for dispatch Packing in suitable way for dispatch. (Main responsibility for this is with the soft landscape manager)

Loading and unloading: Assist and supervise all loading and unloading of stock, prepare areas to receive stock to minimize stock movements / manual handling. - (Main responsibility for this is with the soft landscape manager)

Quality control: Check and control all stock quality, ensuring that all stock for dispatch is of the highest quality, Up to specification and fit for purpose.

Production Planning: Plan the annual stock production requirements in advance to optimize space and profitability. Minimize stock holding periods and ensure quick turnover of stock. This includes stock from other nurseries to ensure we have sufficient stock available to fulfill our orders and Sales targets. (Working with stock controller)

Stock control: Stock taking and management, ensure that stock is available to fulfil orders and maintain minimum CORE stock quantities in the nursery. - (Working with stock controller)

Resource Scheduling: Manage material, machinery and Human resource requirements. To carry out all nursery activities and optimize efficiency.

Health & Safety: Ensure a safe working environment for your team, provide site inductions, Toolbox talks and safety briefings. Assist in the production and management of RAMS

Contract Paperwork & Procedures: Maintain the implementation of the company's site record Procedures

Team Management: Maintained strong communication with your team to ensure a positive and safe working environment, leading to high productivity.

Plant sales: Assist customers with the selection of suitable stock for their projects, provide professional advice and assist in the sales process. (Main responsibility for this is with the sales team)

Customer Care: To maintain strong relationships with existing customers, deal with any issues or complaints in a professional and timely manner. Uphold the company's high standards

Financial: Responsibility for the maintenance of our minimum gross margin on sales This is achieved by delivering production and maintaining stock without waste

Key Accountabilities & Indicators of Effectiveness:

  • Nursery management: Manage all aspects of nursery management, All items relating to the health and quality of our plant stock, own production and bought in.
  • Production Scheduling: Mange production scheduling, Storage, display and protection to ensure the business meets its sales commitments.
  • Reporting: Maintain & update the Work schedules and records to ensure that all work is being completed in a timely and efficient manner, Including times sheets etc for your team Maintain accurate information on works completed, Including spraying and fertilizing Records.
  • Financial Management: Maintain the minimum gross margin for all sales. Monitored by maintaining the schedule and resource requirements, this will be control Monthly, Measured against the master schedule & BOQ.

Necessary Skills and Attributes:

Qualifications:

You will preferably have a 3rd level qualification in Horticulture or Construction Management. But not essential

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Previous Nursery production experience is essential Excellent Knowledge of Plants, Soil, Planting & establishment techniques.

Computer Skills:

  • Excellent computer knowledge Will be a big advantage, Minimum requirement is email proficiency

Leadership & Management:

  • The ability to work alone without supervision is essential, to be a team player, set and meet targets as part of the team.

Communication Skills:

  • Honest and straight forward communication is essential with our customers and team. A pleasant and positive manner with team members & Customers

Attitudes & Behaviour:

  • Positive attitude - Ability to work well in teams, self-starter, pleasant/helpful/adaptable. Willing to work on and off tool dependent on contract size.
