OPERATIONS DIRECTOR / CONTRACTS DIRECTOR (CONSTRUCTION)

Location: Sandton, Gauteng
Salary: R1,400,000 – R1,800,000 Cost to Company per annum

ROLE OVERVIEW

An established and growing construction company headquartered in Gauteng is seeking an experienced Operations Director / Contracts Director to oversee the operational delivery of multiple construction projects and teams. This is a senior leadership role suited to a highly experienced construction professional who has a strong track record of managing large teams, multiple sites, and complex project portfolios within the civil or infrastructure environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that construction operations are delivered efficiently, safely, and within budget while maintaining high quality standards across all active projects. Unlike roles focused on a single project or construction site, this position requires a leader capable of managing several construction teams operating across multiple sites simultaneously.

The role is based at the companys head office in Sandton but requires oversight of projects across different locations depending on operational requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide operational leadership across multiple construction sites and project teams
Oversee planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects
Manage and mentor contracts managers, construction managers, and project teams
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to specifications
Monitor project performance and resolve operational challenges proactively
Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, safety standards, and industry regulations
Maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and subcontractors
Support strategic planning and operational improvement across the business

REQUIREMENTS

Civil Engineering degree or relevant construction qualification
Professional registration advantageous
Extensive experience within the construction industry
Proven experience managing multiple projects and teams simultaneously
Strong operational leadership and team management capability
Practical construction delivery experience with a results-driven approach
Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making skills
Willingness to travel between project sites where required
