Job Overview

A well-established food processing facility based in the Western Cape is seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Technician (Millwright or Fitter) to join their factory maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment within a production environment to ensure minimal downtime and optimal plant performance.

This role requires a hands-on technician with strong fault-finding abilities and experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing or factory environment. The candidate will work closely with production teams to ensure machinery operates efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on factory equipment and machinery

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and carry out repairs efficiently

  • Conduct routine inspections of production equipment to prevent breakdowns

  • Maintain and repair conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, and production machinery

  • Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment

  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, and food safety regulations

  • Maintain maintenance records and report technical issues

  • Work closely with production teams to minimise downtime

  • Participate in standby or shift work if required

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualified Millwright or Fitter (Trade Tested preferred)

  • Minimum 3–5 years experience in a factory or production environment

  • Strong mechanical and fault-finding skills

  • Basic electrical knowledge (for Millwrights)

  • Experience with preventative maintenance systems

  • Ability to work independently and under pressure

  • Good communication and problem-solving skills

  • Valid drivers licence preferred

Advantageous Experience

  • Experience within food processing, abattoirs, or manufacturing plants

  • Exposure to PLC-controlled machinery

  • Experience with refrigeration or automated production equipment

  • Welding and fabrication experience
