Salary: R1 000 000 – R1 100 000 per annum (Negotiable based on experience)

Role Overview

Our client within a highly regulated gaming environment is seeking a senior HR Legal & Compliance leader to head up the Human Resources division.

This is a senior management role (not board level) requiring deep expertise in labour legislation, HR governance, and employment-related legal compliance.

The successful candidate will ensure that all HR practices, employment contracts, disciplinary processes, and internal compliance frameworks are legally sound, audit-ready, and aligned with regulatory requirements.

This role is fully office-based in Midrand.

Core Focus of the Role

This is not a general legal counsel role.

This position specifically focuses on:

  • Labour law compliance

  • Employment contracts and HR policy governance

  • Disciplinary and dispute management

  • Regulatory HR compliance within a strictly regulated industry

  • Risk mitigation in all employment-related matters

Key Responsibilities

HR Leadership

  • Lead and manage the full HR function

  • Develop and implement compliant HR policies and procedures

  • Oversee workforce planning and performance management

  • Support executive leadership on HR risk matters

Labour Law & Employee Relations

  • Ensure full compliance with South African labour legislation

  • Manage CCMA matters and high-risk disciplinary cases

  • Conduct internal investigations where required

  • Provide legal guidance on employee relations matters

Employment Contracts & HR Governance

  • Draft, review and update employment contracts

  • Ensure all documentation is legally compliant and audit-ready

  • Oversee confidentiality, restraint of trade, and disciplinary frameworks

  • Maintain robust HR record-keeping systems

Regulatory Compliance (Gaming Environment)

  • Ensure strict adherence to gaming regulatory requirements

  • Prepare documentation for inspections and audits

  • Implement internal compliance monitoring systems

  • Work closely with leadership to mitigate operational HR risk

Minimum Requirements

  • 10+ years senior HR experience

  • Strong, proven knowledge of South African labour law

  • Extensive experience managing complex employee relations

  • Experience in a regulated environment (gaming, financial services, insurance, etc.)

  • Strong contract drafting and policy development skills

  • Proven ability to lead and structure an HR division

Advantageous

  • LLB or Postgraduate qualification in Labour Law

  • Experience within the gaming industry

  • Experience engaging with regulators
