Senior Backend Developer

Location: Remote – Cape Town
Salary: R45,000 – R70,000 per month (CTC)

Our client operates a fast-growing fuel ordering platform across Southern Africa, connecting commercial customers with fuel depots and streamlining the entire ordering lifecycle.

The platform currently operates in:

• South Africa

• Namibia

• Zimbabwe

• Botswana

• Mozambique

With expansion underway into:

• Eswatini

• Tanzania

• Democratic Republic of Congo

The platform manages fuel ordering, onboarding, invoicing and ERP integration with systems such as Sage Intacct.

The business is transitioning from an outsourced development model to building a strong internal engineering team, creating an opportunity for a backend developer to help shape the future of the platform.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer to join the internal engineering team and contribute to the development and scalability of the fuel ordering platform.

You will work on backend services, APIs, database optimisation and integrations with ERP, banking systems and third-party services.

This role offers the opportunity to work on a platform processing high-volume transactions and complex financial workflows while supporting expansion across Africa.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using C# and .NET

• Build integrations with ERP systems (Sage), banking systems and third-party APIs

• Design and optimise database schemas and queries

• Ensure platform scalability and performance

• Implement secure authentication, hashing and role-based access control

• Maintain audit trails and financial system integrity

• Collaborate with operations, finance and frontend teams

• Support testing, QA and deployment processes

• Contribute to reducing legacy technical debt and modernising the platform architecture

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

• 5+ years backend development experience

• Strong experience with C# and .NET

• Database experience with SQL Server or PostgreSQL

• API development and integration

• Database design and query optimisation

• Understanding of secure authentication and access control

Systems Experience

• Integration with financial systems or ERP platforms

• Experience building scalable transactional systems

Advantageous Skills

• Experience with Sage or financial systems

• Cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS

• DevOps or CI/CD experience

• Infrastructure automation

• Automated testing frameworks

• Exposure to analytics, reporting or machine learning
