Rio Tinto established a new office in Ulaanbaatar and it will have a sharp focus on growing relationships with all partners in Mongolia and supporting the company's exploration program and technology center. The Mongolia Business and Support Centre (MBSSC) will play an important role within the Rio Tinto Information Systems &Technology operating model. MBSSC was created as a positive impact project for Mongolia and to bring into the country the development of IT skills utilizing the Global nature of Rio Tinto and the progressive approach to Information technology.

Role purpose:

The Analyst, Future Finance Analytics Developer is part of the Data Platform team and has the responsibility for supporting the delivery of Finance Leadership Cost Reports and analytics solutions, technical design, development and deployment of deliverables within time, cost, quality constraints and requirements of Future Finance Program. Supports the identification, specification, and best use of metrics, reporting, and analytics within one or more business process areas.

Duties and responsibilities:

Design and Develop reports and dashboards 70%:

Provide technical expertise for designing, developing, and maintaining reports and dashboards using Power BI on existing solutions and analytics environments.

Basic BI development activities include:

· Partner with Business Partners to understand Finance Leadership cost control objectives and reporting requirements.

· Design and develop Power BI reports and dashboards that visualize key financial metrics, cost trends, and budget variances.

· Implement advanced data modeling techniques to integrate data from various sources and enable accurate analysis.

· Utilize Power BI features such as DAX calculations and drill-through capabilities to provide detailed insights into cost drivers and performance indicators.

· Ensure that financial reports adhere to regulatory standards and compliance requirements relevant to the financial sector.

Support Business users 20%

Provide additional ongoing support, and technical expertise on reports and dashboards for providing support to Business Partners and customers, ensuring they have access to accurate and actionable insights to enhance decision-making processes. The objective is to address any issues, questions, and changes arising from the previously published reports and metrics.

Such activities would include, but not limited to:

· Develop Technical Proof-of-Concepts (PoC): deliver PoCs as necessary demonstrating the ability to use tools.

· Enhance existing Power BI Reporting Solution - continue to implement additional solution features and enhancements to improve the solution's robustness, maintainability, and flexibility.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address user requirements, resolve issues, and implement enhancements to existing reports and dashboards.

· Proactively identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, data quality, and efficiency through automation and optimization.

· Ensure escalations of issues, risks, and defects are handled appropriately.

Employment type: 6-month contractor role with possible extension.

College/University Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Specific technical skills/specialties:

  • Microsoft Power Platform experience, such as Power BI, Power Apps, and Power Automate
  • Proficiency in SQL queries, data manipulation, and data visualization techniques.
  • Ability to create advanced DAX calculations for complex business logic.
  • Excellent understanding of data governance, security, and compliance standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills paired with experience in data analyzing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate information clearly and concisely
  • Proactively identify opportunities for automation, streamlining workflows, and implementing best practices in report development

Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in business analytics, data science, BI development or data modeling
  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing financial reports and dashboards using Power BI in a corporate environment, preferably within the financial sector.
  • Experience with SAP systems, including extracting data and integrating with Power BI for reporting purposes.
  • Proficiency in SharePoint for collaboration, document management, and data sharing.
  • Working in a cross-functional Agile team with scrum masters, data engineers, BI developers, product owners, business analysts, and subject matter experts.
  • Experience/Certification in Object Oriented Analysis, User Interface Design, Dashboard Development, and advanced SQL Programming
  • Experience/Certification with Business Intelligence Solutions
