Job Overview

Scrapworks Group is seeking an experienced and driven Operations Manager to oversee the entire day-to-day operations of our Port Arthur scrap metal recycling facility. This role is responsible for managing personnel, equipment, safety, production flow, customer experience, and overall facility performance.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong operational discipline, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to manage a fast-paced industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

Facility & Operations Management

• Oversee all operational aspects of the recycling yard, including inbound material flow, processing, outbound shipments, and yard organization
• Ensure smooth daily operations with minimal downtime and maximum efficiency
• Maintain proper material segregation, grading accuracy, and inventory control
• Coordinate loading, unloading, and processing schedules

Personnel Management

• Supervise, train, and manage all yard staff, equipment operators, scale operators, and support personnel
• Assign daily tasks, monitor performance, and enforce accountability
• Enforce company policies, attendance, productivity, and workplace conduct
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, and disciplinary actions as needed

Safety & Compliance

• Enforce OSHA, environmental, and company safety standards at all times
• Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and incident reporting
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal recycling regulations
• Maintain proper documentation and permits

Equipment & Maintenance

• Oversee daily inspections and maintenance of all equipment, including loaders, forklifts, shear, baler, trucks, and support machinery
• Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance to reduce downtime
• Ensure proper use and care of all company equipment

Customer & Vendor Relations

• Ensure a professional, efficient, and fair experience for all customers and vendors
• Resolve operational issues, disputes, or material concerns promptly
• Maintain strong communication with suppliers, transporters, and corporate leadership

Reporting & Performance Tracking

• Track production metrics, throughput, downtime, and labor efficiency
• Monitor shrink, losses, and operational inefficiencies
• Provide regular reports and updates to ownership and senior management

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in operations management (scrap metal, recycling, industrial, or heavy equipment environment preferred)
• Strong leadership and team management skills
• Solid understanding of heavy equipment operations and yard logistics
• Working knowledge of safety regulations and environmental compliance
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Proficient in basic computer systems and reporting

Preferred Experience

• Scrap metal or recycling industry experience
• Experience managing multi-shift operations
• Knowledge of metal grading and material processing
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
