 Job Description:

CharteredPartners is seeking an Audit & Assurance Partner to lead and grow a practice in London. This is a senior leadership appointment carrying engagement sign-off as a Responsible Individual, origination of new mandates, and the profit-and-loss performance of the audit portfolio. The successful candidate will set technical direction, shape quality and risk culture, and represent the firm before clients, audit committees and the regulator. Key Responsibilities:

  • Hold ultimate engagement responsibility as the signing partner and Responsible Individual, including final review and sign-off of audit opinions under International Standards on Auditing (UK).
  • Carry and grow a personal portfolio, owning the profit-and-loss performance, pricing, recovery and profitability of the audit book.
  • Originate new mandates through your network, referral relationships and market presence, converting opportunities into recurring assurance engagements.
  • Maintain Responsible Individual status and audit registration, ensuring readiness for FRC and quality monitoring inspections.
  • Set and enforce quality and risk standards across the practice, leading technical consultations on FRS 102 and UK-adopted IFRS judgements.
  • Lead, mentor and develop directors, senior managers and qualified staff, building succession and capability.
  • Engage audit committees, boards and listed clients on governance under the UK Corporate Governance Code and financial reporting matters.
  • Oversee compliance with the Companies Act 2006 and FCA or PRA expectations across regulated audits in the portfolio.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Membership of the ICAEW or ACCA, with audit qualification and Responsible Individual status, or clear eligibility for it.
  • Deep command of International Standards on Auditing (UK), FRS 102 and UK-adopted IFRS, including complex consolidation, financial instruments and revenue judgements.
  • Substantial experience signing or leading audits of listed, regulated or large private entities.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Companies Act 2006 and the FRC regulatory framework.
  • Understanding of FCA and PRA requirements for regulated entity audits.
  • Demonstrable origination record, with the ability to build and convert a pipeline of assurance mandates.
  • Strong commercial judgement across pricing, engagement economics and portfolio profitability.
  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary audit teams in a practice or Big Four environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with credibility before audit committees and the regulator.
  • Unimpeachable professional ethics and independence, with a clean regulatory and inspection history.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior partner or director tenure within a Big Four or established mid-tier firm in the UK.
  • Sector depth in financial services, technology, or consumer and industrial markets.
  • Experience managing FRC Audit Quality Review inspections and remediation of findings.
  • Familiarity with SOX and ICFR requirements for US-listed group audits.
  • A visible market profile, including speaking, writing or committee involvement within the profession.
  • Experience with group audits spanning UK and international components.

Compensation:

Competitive package commensurate with seniority and experience, including base, performance-based bonus, long-term incentives and (where applicable) partner-track participation.
