Job Description:
CharteredPartners is seeking a Tax Partner to lead and grow a corporate tax practice within a prominent accounting firm in Hong Kong. The successful candidate will hold full origination responsibility, owning a personal client and revenue portfolio, signing tax opinions and providing strategic leadership across the tax function. This is a senior appointment combining business development, profit-and-loss accountability and technical authority across Hong Kong profits tax, the territorial source principle and the evolving international tax landscape. Key Responsibilities:
- Originate new business, building and converting a pipeline of corporate and multinational tax clients across Hong Kong and the wider region.
- Hold profit-and-loss accountability for the practice, managing revenue, margin, billing and resource planning.
- Sign tax opinions and assume ultimate technical responsibility for advice on Hong Kong profits tax and cross-border matters.
- Provide strategic leadership to the tax team, setting direction, standards and quality benchmarks.
- Advise clients on the two-tier profits tax regime (8.25% and 16.5%) and the application of the territorial source principle.
- Lead on the foreign-sourced income exemption (FSIE) regime and Pillar Two obligations, including the income inclusion rule and the Hong Kong minimum top-up tax.
- Act as a trusted adviser to boards and senior stakeholders on structuring, IRD engagement and stamp duty planning.
- Develop senior managers and directors, building bench strength and succession within the practice.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- A recognised professional accounting or tax qualification, with HKICPA membership strongly preferred.
- Extensive post-qualification experience in Hong Kong corporate and international tax, including a sustained period at director or partner level.
- A demonstrable record of business origination and the development of a personal client following.
- Authoritative command of Hong Kong profits tax, the territorial source principle and the absence of VAT or GST.
- Deep understanding of the foreign-sourced income exemption regime and its practical application.
- Strong working knowledge of Pillar Two mechanics, including the IIR and the Hong Kong minimum top-up tax.
- Proven experience signing tax opinions and carrying ultimate technical responsibility.
- Established relationships across the Hong Kong and regional business community.
- Profit-and-loss leadership experience, with the commercial acuity to manage a practice.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder-management skills at board level.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience advising multinational groups headquartered in or operating through Hong Kong.
- Familiarity with IRD advance ruling processes and dispute resolution.
- Exposure to mergers, acquisitions and group reorganisations with significant tax complexity.
- A track record of building and leading high-performing tax teams.
- Involvement in thought leadership, industry forums or professional bodies.
- Experience advising on stamp duty and cross-border financing structures.
Compensation:
Competitive package commensurate with seniority and experience, including base, performance-based bonus, long-term incentives and (where applicable) partner-track participation.
