About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Automation Engineer to join our maintenance and engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the execution and supervision of planned and corrective maintenance for electrical and automation systems, particularly PLC, Drives, and LV electrical components. Your main goal will be to ensure reliable equipment performance, prevent unplanned downtime, and support continuous improvement initiatives across operations.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Execution & Reliability

  • Carry out and supervise planned and corrective maintenance for PLCs, Drives, and electrical automation systems.
  • Ensure uninterrupted operation of automated equipment through prompt troubleshooting and high technical standards.
  • Maintain backups for PLC and drive programs during maintenance activities.

  • Ensure all PLC systems are password-protected and secured.

Root Cause Analysis & Technical Support

  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring faults related to PLCs, drives, and electrical systems to prevent repeat issues.
  • Lead troubleshooting activities to quickly resolve automation-related breakdowns.

System Improvements & Modifications

  • Propose and implement technical improvements (hardware/software) to increase equipment reliability and performance.
  • Execute modifications based on operational needs or management directives.

Monitoring & Documentation

  • Keep an accurate record of all bypassed systems (e.g., crane systems) and ensure their timely clearance.
  • Document all maintenance activities, technical findings, and system changes clearly.

  • Monitor and analyze equipment KPIs to support reliability projects and initiatives.

Project Coordination & Supervision

  • Lead and supervise maintenance or repair work performed by internal technicians, contractors, or OEMs, ensuring work is done according to schedule and specification.
  • Collaborate with planners to evaluate the effectiveness of the maintenance program, including tracking planned vs. actual activities and backlogs.

Team Development & Training

  • Identify training needs and maintain a training matrix for team competency development.

  • Provide on-the-job training for technicians to improve skills and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Verify technician-prepared maintenance checklists and support performance evaluations (e.g., PMDS).

Other Responsibilities

  • Ensure all work activities comply with HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environment) policies and standards.
  • Support warranty claim documentation and technical reporting when needed.

  • Take on additional tasks or assignments as directed by management to achieve department objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical, Mechatronic, Electronic, Automation Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 35 years of technical experience in automation and electrical maintenance, preferably within port operations or heavy industry.
  • Strong expertise in PLC systems (hardware/software), Drives, and field equipment.

  • Solid understanding of port equipment maintenance (e.g., cranes, RTGs, spreaders) is a strong advantage.
  • Proficient in conducting root cause analysis, reporting, and documentation.

  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and team leadership skills.

  • Ability to work independently under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Strong initiative, accountability, and communication skills.
