Shelter for Life International (SFL) is an international relief and development organization with 40 years of experience in providing sustainable development and humanitarian assistance to countries around the world.
SFL opened its office in Afghanistan in the year of 1998, funded by multiple donors such as BPRM, USG, USDA and WFP. SFL has a rich experience and provides assistance to the following areas; Agriculture Development, Food Security, livelihood and emergency, shelter and population settlement, microcredit, infrastructure development, health and nutrition.
Job Summary: The Tinsmith is responsible for training beneficiaries in theoretical and practical sheet-metal work, including precise measurement, cutting, welding, and shaping of metals such as iron, tin, aluminum, and profiles. They manufacture various metal products like water containers, kettles, stove pipes, and other tools, utilizing technical equipment such as cutting machines, grinders, welding and machines. The Tinsmith maintains and cares for all tools and machinery, adheres to safety protocols by wearing appropriate protective gear, and ensures high-quality finishing and painting of products for delivery. Additionally, they observe workplace discipline, order, and punctuality.
Key Responsibility: Training project beneficiaries in theoretical and practical sheet-metal work
Accurate measurement of metal materials (iron, tin sheets, aluminum, and profiles)
Cutting, welding, and shaping metals according to blueprints
Manufacturing metal items such as water containers, kettles, stove pipes, pipe bends buckets, and other metal tools
Using technical tools such as cutting machines, grinders, drills, welding machines, and presses
Maintaining and taking care of tools, machines, and work equipment.
Appling safety principles at the workplace (wearing protective clothing, gloves,
safety glasses, masks, etc.).
Painting and final preparation of the iron product for delivery and hand-over
Observing discipline, order, and working hours at the workplace
Qualification/Requirements: A primary school graduate, with a preference for those who have completed 12th grade high school.
Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in the field of tinsmith.
Skills in training and mentoring project beneficiaries in both theoretical and practical aspects of the trade.
Good knowledge and familiarity with electrical and solar energy systems
Physical fitness and ability to work in different environments (urban and rural areas)
Honesty, punctuality, and strong teamwork spirit
High attention to detail, effective time management skills and strong work ethic.
Excellent spoken in Dari and Pashto languages.
