Role Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Field Officer to support a pioneering project focused on testing regenerative agricultural practices with smallholder farmers. The outcomes of this project have the potential to scale across Kenya, directly benefiting farmers through improved soil health, increased yields, and access to carbon revenue streams. This role is central to executing and monitoring on-the-ground field trials and ensuring farmer engagement and data collection are implemented effectively and to a high standard.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of regenerative agriculture trials with selected smallholder farmers.
- Recruit, train and onboard farmers for participation in the trials, ensuring informed consent and buy in.
- Deliver regular training sessions and technical support to participating farmers.
- Maintain strong working relationships with county agriculture officers and community leaders.
- Monitor field activities, ensure adherence to trial protocols, and document farmer practices.
- Oversee all aspects of data collection, including training enumerators, administering surveys, and ensuring data quality and completeness.
- Conduct surveys, gather feedback, and compile accurate, timely reports on field progress.
- Troubleshoot challenges in the field and escalate issues where necessary.
- Provide daily and weekly updates to the project team and contribute insights and learnings.
Qualifications Required
- Degree or diploma in Agronomy, Agricultural Sciences, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working directly with smallholder farmers in Kenya.
- Proven experience in planning, executing, and monitoring large-scale field trials.
- Experience conducting farmer trainings, recruitment, and ongoing farmer support.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with county agriculture officers and other local stakeholders.
- Strong skills in data collection, field reporting, and administering surveys.
- MUST be based in area of operation.
- Comfortable using tech tools i.e. smartphones, laptops.
- Able and willing to ride a motorbike.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in Swahili and English.
- Strong understanding of soil science, regenerative agriculture, is a plus.
- Passion for climate action and interest in supporting smallholder farmers through innovative solutions.
